“Great dive vacation!”

This was a great dive resort. After reading some of the reviews we went expecting the worst and we were pleasantly surprised. If you want the Ritz go somewhere else. If you are looking for a quiet island dive destination this is for you. We did the all inclusive and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are very large and clean. The food at the Banana Tree was better than expected for an all inclusive. The service was not bad and the waiters and bartenders were very friendly. The dive shop was great. We were on the morning boat dives and were very pleased with everyone that worked with us. The boat leaves right from the dive shop on site and tanks are left out by the beach and the dock for shore dives. There was a dive master in the water on every dive to guide us and point out some of the interesting things we might have missed, but they were not overbearing if we wanted to explore on our own. Overall this was a great vacation. I am not sure what other people are complaining about.... we loved it!

“good hotel, poor food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

we stayed here for 1 week and had a nice refurbished room with modern design and very clean.
The overall appaerance of the hotel is very good and they are putting a great effort in renovating the entire place.
Pool area is nice and spacious, the marina gives a chique feeling, service was good
they have a nice beach with a good beach bar (not too loud)
BUT the food is beneath standards for this kind of hotel.
Bonaire has a multitude of good restaurants and most are within walking distance of the hotel.
Conclusion stay here, but eat in town.

Room Tip: ask for a renovated room

“Motel Plaza”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This "resort" is really a large motel that engages in false advertising and overcharging. Their website claims 3 restaurants, onsite car rentals, a casino & world class newly renovated suites. These are all lies they only have 2 restaurants, no car rentals, no casino & the rooms have not been updated in years. My suite had a front door that did not close properly, a bathroom door that not only did not close at all but the handle was broken off. The sink had a huge crack in it, the mini fridge smelled like something had died in it and the room was filthy. It took 3 days and 7 complaints to hotel to get the bathroom door fixed and the treated us as if the request was unreasonable. Maid service is beyond bad, they verse of cleaning the room was replacing the towels – that’s it just towels. Not cleaning the floors, making the bed, emptying the trash, cleaning the bathroom – nothing. We got so fed up the 4th day that our room was still filthy we made them bring the maid back and boy was she so rude to us for making her work. Then she only made our bed with a bottom sheet, no top sheet, we complained again as was told that is how they make beds their even though we had a top sheet until then – more lies. We asked for hair dryer (which was suppose to be in each room to begin with), and an iron when we checked in. It took 3 phones calls and 2 days to get the hair dryer, and the iron never did show up. The restaurants are also terrible the food is bad, the prices are high, it takes over an hour to get a simple sandwich, and don’t bother asking for it a certain way either. They will make your food however they feel like and then pretend you either didn’t tell them or that they no longer understand English. Basically if you choose this resort you will be paying resort prices for a motel experience. All staff (including management) are lazy and only care about getting you to go away and not on delivering the experience that their guests were promised and paid for. My photos attached to this review pretty much say it all!

Room Tip: If you want a nice Bonaire experience dont stay here, those that left positive reviews must have nev...

“Very nice resort”

We just returned from a fantastic 7 night stay at the Plaza Resort. We stayed here Jan 18th to the 25th. The hotel is located by the ocean and has a nice beach. The room we stayed in was very nice and look liked it had just been renovated. The bathroom was great with a large tub and a separate shower. The staff was always very helpful and accommodating. The restaurant that is on location at the resort called the Banana Tree was great. The food we had here was always very good and was a good value and the service was fantastic. I also loved the on location dive shop called Toucan Divers. They were always very friendly and gave good advice on where to shore dive and never pressured us to boat dive. In fact there is a great shore dive located at the resort the reef there was very healthy and was a great dive. I would recommend this resort and would stay here again!

“Great Time”

My husband and I stayed here for a week, from Christmas to New Years day 2011. The staff was very friendly and always accomadating. Our room was large and had a Great view of the ocean. Beds were not the most comfortable, but we managed. our bathroom looked as if it had been recently redone with a large updated tub, glass shower and new floor tile. we chose to do the all inclusive package which included all our meals, drinks, rental vehical & 11 boat dives. I would reccomend the all inclusive package, It was a Great value. The food was great with fresh fish entree's every day. The divng package from Tucan Diving was out of this world. The diving staff was very knowledgable and always accomadating and the diving was fabulous!!! Diving out front of the resort for a shore dive is amazing. I would express that if you are going over a holiday, they do love their fireworks and the were still setting them off at 5 A.M. on new years day. Not so good when you are leaving on a 6 A.M. flight. All in all, we will most certainly reccomend this property to our family and friends and will stay here again when we come back to Bonaire. i will note that if you are not a Diver, there is not much else to do on this Island. We were not impressed with the actual town of Bonaire. Thanks again to Tucan Diving - you made our trip fabulous!!!! Make sure you bring bug spray with you, the sand fleas & mosiqito's are bad.

Room Tip: Ocean view room had great view - 2nd floor room. Ask for king bed if possible
