“Great accommodations if you are diving”

Den Laman offers very modern and exceptionally clean apartments with most amenities Americans expect at hotels. The rooms are enormous, baths modern and kitchens look they are right out of a design catalog. The prices are surprisingly in line with other, much less well maintained condos- eg Sand Dollar Resort where we had stayed in the past. There are some drawbacks though: oceanview is not really a view unless you are willing to hang your head and body out the window. Although apartments are large, there is little cross-ventilation so it almost mandates running the AC, especially since there are no screens in the windows! No nice ocean breezes to enjoy- even on the balcony. (Environmentally, this is silly and wasteful.) The kitchen is gorgeous but the utensils are meager. Probably what I missed most was a place to sit where you could enjoy the water views and sunsets. There is no public area outside- only the restaurant which is often closed. There is no place to sit in the sun or shade outside if you are not diving. Heaven knows you don't need a pool in Bonaire, but some beach chairs, a place to sit and read etc would be nice. But the major reason to go to Bonaire is the diving and the diving on the house reef here is great.
I would probably stay there again but spring for an oceanfront room.

Room Tip: We had no problem with noise but faced the south side which is quiet. Would probably only get an oce...

We just returned from a diving trip to Bonaire. Stayed at the Den Laman in the ground floor 2-bedroom, 2-bath condo. What a treat! The rooms were clean, there was a/c in the main living area (not common in Bonaire), and kitchen well appointed.

The living area in the condo is plenty for 2 couples, and the only downside was when the restaurant closed each night at 11PM. Down came the metal garage door just outside our room. It only lasted a few seconds ... not a problem.

Amina (manager) was great! She speaks 6 or 7 languages and was a real help on giving directions.

There is no swimming pool on property, but there is a very large ocean right off of the condo deck. Snorkeling in and around this property is fantastic. The Bari Reef, just off the dock, is a good reef with plenty to see. We dove the reef 4 times during our stay and saw different things each dive. Hint ... go out early in the mornings to see the most fish activity. Night dives were good with lobster, Charlie the Tarpon, and assorted other creatures.

The dive shop on property was an added benefit. Be sure to attend the briefing and orientation. This is absolutely key to a good experience. The underwater photography shop was closed the week we were there, but I understand that this is also good for information, equipment, and helping you get the most out of your dives.

The restaurant on property was so-so, but we ate there several times. Service was slow in American standards, but adequate for "island time." Meals are just not rushed on Bonaire. We had to get used to that.

Overall, this is a good property. I've been to Bonaire 3 times in the past 2 years for diving. I think this was the best yet.

Room Tip: I'm not sure that there is a 'bad' room in the place. It is definitely worth the money t...

“Love Den Laman - will do it again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Just returned from our first 2 weeks in Bonaire. Stayed at Den Laman and loved it. Very clean and modern with all the amenities, and the A/C in all rooms after a hot day of diving was a must. We ran into a few glitches (that's part of vacationing) but the staff was very accommodating and gave us some upgrades to make up for the problems. The dive shop was excellent (Bonaire Dive & Adventure) and very friendly and helpful. I loved it and plan to stay there again on my next visit - which I hope will be soon!

Room Tip: The ocean front rooms have an outstanding view, but for the extra price I'm not sure it's wo...

After a lot of research for our first trip to Bonaire, we chose Den Laman condos and overall, we were happy with the choice. The view was fantastic (make sure you get ocean front rooms) and the rooms were roomy and extremely clean. Other than a few mosquitos that followed us in, we never saw anything resembling a bug the whole 2 weeks we were there. There are only about a dozen or so condos, so it is nice and quiet compared to some of the bigger resorts on the island. There is a dive shop on site which is very convenient, although it has issues of its own (my review of Bonaire Dive and Adventure is elsewhere).
A couple of things to consider though. This is a condo, not a hotel, and do not expect any service or attention from anybody. The office hours are very restricted and often no one is there even during those hours. As noted elsewhere on line, one of the people in the front office is quite surly and is not going to go out of her way to help.
The condo is missing a few things that would be helpful e.g. a pan that one could use to heat things up; more than 2 bowls; tissues. However, this wasn't a big deal.
Probably our biggest problem was the restaurant downstairs. The first week they were closed for their own holiday. We were very disappointed to have the restaurant open back up, accompanied by a horrible smell of stale grease that remained in one version or another for the entire week. It certainly turned us off of ever eating there. We did try to go for a drink there, but the service was dismal (but that's another story).
Overall, the positives outweighed the negatives and is a good choice for independent people who want a good location with less hubbub than the bigger resorts.

“Wonderful apartments and great view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

We stayed at Den Laman for 8 days for our honeymoon.
We arrived in the middle of the night and was supposed to get a rental car delivered when we arrived, but we waited for 3 hours (even though we called them) in the middle of the night and it never came, so we took a taxi to Den Laman, but the reception was closed. We had to sleep on the pier (we hoped for at least a sunbed or a lounge sofa).
When we confronted the staff in the morning Monique (some kind of a manager) was a little bit to ruff on us, but later Amina came in and was so kind and helped us a lot.

The first night we booked a 2 bedroom Ocean Front (Our One bedroom ocean front was occupied.) This apartment (Grouper room) was truly amazing! All new kitchen applies and furniture. The balcony (approx 25 square meters) and the view was to die for.

Amina fixed so we had to stay in this room all week, because they screwed up with a car reservation.

Bonaire Dive & Adventure was great, we had a 6 days shore dive package. Everthing was easy. Perfect with the equipment room!

Room Tip: Two bedroom Ocean Front (Grouper room) is probably the one that is most expensive, but it is worth e...
