“Quiet place to enjoy culture and marine life”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We stayed at HHH end Dec/ beginning Jan 2012.Lots of privacy in superbly clean apartments equipped with Satellite TV, even Dutch BVN was installed!.We rented a Pickup Toyota via Louise at Budget which was fine for touring round the island and going to Washington Slagbaai. Mountainbiking in Slagbaai is really great, be sure to start before 12.00, you need all day to get round(Put the bikes in the pickup and start at the entrance).Snorkelling is great, we especially enjoyed our trip on board the Woodwind, a trimaran with wonderful staff. The Butterfly Farm and Kunuku Rooi Lamoenchie were also musts.Ask Louise to order some breakfast things for you, very comfy for your first morning! We definitely recommend this place, we felt " at home".

We stayed at Happy Holiday Homes for the second time. The place was clean and quiet. Louise is just a great person to stay with. The place was clean and if we needed anything all we had to do was to ask. Our host even introduced us to another set of teachers and even though they were not diving like we were wer got along quite well. We are looking forward to our next trip there.

Room Tip: If you are getting in late, let Louise know what food you may need for the morning before you can ge...

“Ideal for scuba”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I was very happy with my stay. The room (actually more like an apartment) had a well-equipped kitchen and nice living room There was also an outdoor storage closet for scuba equipment, plus rinse tubs and hose. Everything was nice and clean, and the proprietor, Louise, was extremely helpful. If you stay here, you should get a rental car, but you really need one anyways to truly experience Bonaire. We rented our car from Budget (at the airport), and our equipment from Dive Friends, right across from Budget, which were both 5 minute's drive away and very convenient for beginning/end of day tank exchanges.

Happy Holiday Homes was pretty much ideal for the traveler who wants to avoid the expensive resorts. It was our first time in Bonaire and we had no problems getting settled in and learning the lay of the land.

“Home for the holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Happy Holiday Homes was a great discovery, thanks to Tripadvisor. This is not a hotel or resort, but a 14 unit apartment rental complex with a kitchen (microwave, large refrigerator, stove, etc.) See their website http://www.happyholidayhomes.com/ and contact Louise directly to book directly.

PROS:
*Located south of the main town, close to the southern dive sites and 15 minutes from Lac Bay for windsurfing.
*Units are SPARKLING CLEAN and far better than the $200+ resort place we stayed at later in our trip.
*Louise (owner?/manager) responds to emails and requests quickly and promptly. She was a great resource for our first visit to Bonaire.
*Louise will stock your fridge before your arrival with groceries per request. (You can ask for the basic grocery package or make individual requests.) She can also arrange for car/truck rental!
*A kitchen allowed us to cook all our own meals. Island restaurants are quite pricey and the hours are restricted. We ate when we wanted to and cooking was easy with our well-stocked kitchen.
*Wash tank/hose in the front of each unit with a locked closet to store dive equipment. All our wet/sandy equipment stayed outside so our apartment's floor and bathroom stayed clean!
*Safe and quiet location.

Other pluses:
*comfortable couches and T.V. with cable service, English language channels available.
*Well stocked with assortment of books in our unit.

CONS:
*This is not a resort, which suited us, but some people may prefer the large resort with bar/restaurants or amenities.
*No ocean view (for our unit).
*Our double bed was two twins pushed together. It was fine for the few days we were there.
*No daily cleaning service. Again, we preferred this but some people may have different expectations.

As for diving, we went with Dive with Friends (10% discount coupon from Louise). Their most southern shop (Port Bonaire, near airport) is a 5 minute drive from the hotel.

We had some initial problems getting to Bonaire because our flight from Aruba to Bonaire was on DAE. It worked out "island style," but I would recommend flying with Insel Air instead. Divi Air is another option but the smaller plane may not be able to accommodate all the luggage on the same flight.

I recommend Happy Holiday Homes highly-can't wait to return!
