“Relaxing Paradise”

The white sand beach adds to the experience created by a great pool and professional Bajan staff. We had no clue what to expect in Barbados but we can report after also staying with the Almond Beach properties, that Accra is a great property. It's proximity to Just Grillin' and Chefette (if you need a Roti after a night in the Gap), as well the convenience store and small restaurants across the street, make this a prime property. South Coast is great due to its proximity to the Gap and Oistins. I would never return to the West Coast - it must have some special allure to British tourists because unless you are wealthy enough to stay at Sandy Lane and shop in ritzy Holetown, there is no good reason to leave the South Coast. Accra's housekeeping staff was professional and the beach staff ensures that your high quality sunbeds are well placed with nice umbrellas if you need the shade. Great, great property and will definitely return, with my children next time.

Room Tip: The Pool view rooms are great with nice balcony space. The beach and pool are so beautiful that your...

“Conference in Paradise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Having a conference at Accra is tough, really tough. Being in a room all day and missing out on that wonderful beach, inviting pool and interacting with some of the friendliest people on the planet is certainly tough. Rooms are spacious although not work friendly with the desk at one side of the room and the Internet cable on the other side, I think that is careful planning so that you dont work too much is this paradise. Accra is central to everything, restaurants, shops and of course that great beach. The board walk really connects the place with other places like Tapas, just a short walk up the beach.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a beach or pool view, we conference people mostly has the rooms overlooking the...

“Very disappointed”

I spent a week at Accra Beach Hotel earlier this month (Feb 2012) and was terribly disappointed. First off the staff is very friendly, especially Tonisha at the front desk. The grounds are nice, very well kept. Once I got to my island view room, however, I realized that it was old and everything in it was out of date. Parts of the balcony was broken off, the furniture was very old, and the bathroom looked worse than the one at my house...very small, the toilet was positioned badly, shower was small, and faucet was broken. I decided to stay instead of going through the hassle of checking out and finding another hotel. I went to the Coco Patch restaurant once and ended up leaving 5 minutes later. We got seated and the first thing I noticed were stains on the table cloth. We overlooked it. We ordered coffee and the hot water was brought to the table in an old plastic jug. Attempted to pour out some water in the cup and some type of brown liquid came out before the water. I put everything down, and left the restaurant never to return. I will never stay at Accra Beach Hotel again.

“The place to be”

We've been to five other Bajan resorts over the years, and this is now our clear favourite. The beach is excellent and a new boardwalk to the west means you can hike quite a distance along the waterfront. The location is also an easy stroll to restaurants and shops in various price ranges (the Quay Side Centre across the street is handy -- check out Just Grillin' for lunch and ice cream at Chilly Moo's). My husband liked both the nearby sports bars, Bert's and Bubba's. The Accra Beach Resort has beautifully landscaped grounds and facilities include a well-maintained pool big enough for work-out swims with ample chairs and shade umbrellas alongside. Staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. The spa is pricey, but I had my nails done and was happy with the results. This hotel could use more bandwidth to speed up the lobby wi-fi connection and less pop music (Celine Dion and the like) during breakfast at the Coco Patch. If you go, there's a great little off-the-beaten-track restaurant called Shakers (go up Browne's Gap and make a left at Chicken Galore). Shakers specializes in fresh fish. Good food, good prices, great atmosphere.

“I stay at the Accra every time I am in Barbados”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I was at teh Accra now the fourth time. We went to visit other hotels and asked to see the rooms. There were none that were the total package. Had a wonderful beach, was close to all the restaurants, the ocean view rooms are fantastic, the managers reception every Tuesday is great.

Basically we loved every minute. I took my 9 year old son and we could not get him out of the pool until it was very dark...........Great for kids.

They also have a kids club. You have to pay for it but its like day camp. They take the kids on trips, do activities, take them out for ice cream. He absolutely loved that.

SO when in Barbados -- Accra here I come.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for ocean view -- makes a huge difference.
