“Great Hotel, Great Location. Believed to be closed)”

We stayed at The Gap some 15 months ago and had a great time prior to a cruise, the staff were first class, helpful and friendly, I had an accident in Bridgetown and broke my foot. The staff could not have been more helpful.
In January 2012 we again visited Barbados, as the hotel we were staying in was part of the package we couldn't book The Gap. We had a walk into St Lawrence to see what the future availability of the hotel would be. We were extremely disappointed as the hotel appeared to be closed. Local enquiries revealed that the hotel had closed as had its sister hotel further up the coast. We do hope that it reopens and get the same staff back, great shame.

“Great friendly place to stay”

We stayed at Escape at the Gap last February for my partners Dad's 60th and there were 6 of us.

We had a ground floor room right next to the restaurant and the only annoying thing was we didn't really have a balcony area outside like everyone else (think we were the only room not to have). Rooms are bright and colourful as you'd expect from the Caribbean, bathroom was huge.

We were all inclusive and had the choice for dinner of the buffet restaurant or the A La Carte. We ate in both and the standard is pretty good. You get the usual Englishy stuff with chips but they do some local dishes too and there is quite a selection. The bar serves all the local spirits and beers but we often walked to the bar just down the street on the other side of the road (part of the pizza place) as it really nice and just for a change of scenery.

You walk out of the bar / restaurant and your on the beach which was beautiful and sandy. You get the usual people trying to sell you stuff but after a day or 2 they usually leave you alone.

If you want to do a boat trip don't use the one Virgin Holidays recommend but try Cliff Sharker as they are much more reasonable. They are a couple who take you out of their boat, show you the turtles and you can go snorkelling. I'd never snorkelled before but they were great teachers and come in the water with you. They take loads of pictures too that you can get from facebook after.

We got the shuttle bus into the capital one day - the shopping is cheap so it's worth a wander. We got a cab back though and it's inexpensive.

I'd definitely recommend the Mount Gay rum factory tour which you can book with Virgin Holidays, best trip we did and plenty of free tasters!

The staff are so friendly and really get to know you. I tripped and cut my leg on some glass one morning and a few minutes later there was a knock on the door and a member of staff had come to see if i was ok and needed any first aid. Nothing was too much trouble. When the waitresses finished their shifts in the evening they'd come into the bar and dance with everyone else.

Lovely friendly hotel with a real family feel that i'd recommend.

Stayed there for 7 days in September, although the rooms are a bit tired you cannot fault the place, the staff are wonderful and I am a fussy eater but the food was brilliant and plenty of choice. Fabulous beach all in all a great holiday

Room Tip: rooms in the main block pirates block is a bit out of it

“Great Place, Great Fun, Good Food”

Escape at the Gap was amazing, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Entertainment at the hotel was good and the food was really tasty. There are a lot of good restaurants and clubs just walking distance from the hotel. I would definitely go back there the next chance I get.

Room Tip: Sea side rooms are the best, you are closer to the beach and the eating area

“Superb Staycation at Escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

Hubby and I did a staycation at Escape in St. Lawrence Gap earlier this month and my only regret is that I hadn't tried it sooner and now it's scheduled to be closed at the end of the month for renovations.

Staff were friendly and helpful, food was fantastic and the entertainment was great. The hotel is all inclusive and right on the beach. Our room looked out onto the ocean so the view was spectacular. The room was tastefully furnished but as mentioned in some other reviews, the rooms could do with an upgrade...I look forward to the trying out the new Escape

Room Tip: Don't choose rooms over the entertainment gazebo if you go to bed early.
