“Superb Staycation at Escape”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

Hubby and I did a staycation at Escape in St. Lawrence Gap earlier this month and my only regret is that I hadn't tried it sooner and now it's scheduled to be closed at the end of the month for renovations.

Staff were friendly and helpful, food was fantastic and the entertainment was great. The hotel is all inclusive and right on the beach. Our room looked out onto the ocean so the view was spectacular. The room was tastefully furnished but as mentioned in some other reviews, the rooms could do with an upgrade...I look forward to the trying out the new Escape

Room Tip: Don't choose rooms over the entertainment gazebo if you go to bed early.

“Fantastic Stay At EATG - Sept/Oct 2011”

It was fantastic to be back in Barbados, we hadn't been for 6 years but this was our third time. We decided to give another part of the Island a try so was a little nervous when we first arrived.
If I have to be honest with you, my first thoughts, were OMG!! However, on arrival we went to reception and were given a fruit punch or rum punch, allocated our room and were helped up to our room. The room was a little tired and in desperate need of some TLC, however very clean and we had maid service daily.
We were travelling as a family 2A 3C one being a baby.
Hotel staff were fantastic, okay you had the odd one who found it hard to break a smile, but in general they were good.
Food was lovely, Juliette was always there to look after you at breakfast as she made a beautiful omlette. Lunch time there was always something at the buffet if not you could always ask them to make you something, which they always did without any hassle. Pirates Restaurant was lovely although this is not open every day. So when it is it was certainly worth a visit. A La Carte nights were outstanding, Managers cocktail party/BBQ (Mondays) was not to be missed, fantastic, especially the steak but plenty of choice.
The swimming pool was cleaned every morning, but why would you use the swimming pool when you have a gorgeous beach and beautiful carribean sea right on your door step. Bar staff came out to the beach throughout the day to offer refreshments, the service was just fantastic. Afternoon tea is served from 4pm-5pm but didn't use it much as we were so full from lunch. Beach towels were changed daily from 5.30pm, these are seperate from your bath towels.
We were asked often throughout our stay if everything was okay and if we were enjoying ourselves. Jeffrey the Hotel Manager would go out of his way to make your stay an enjoyable one. Frances in the Restaurant was our favourite and our 13 month daughter just loved her. It was very sad on the day we were leaving. Even sadder to know that this hotel is closing down as we would most certainly have returned. Staff were being moved to the Savannah or the Waves.
Carol-ann who was in charge of the kids entertainment was just lovely and very approachable, even though our daughter was too young to attend the kids club carol-ann still came over to say hello to her. Olivia at the bar was also very friendly.
We went to Harrisons Cave booked through Virgin and our driver Owen did more than he was supposed to & gave us a tour of the Island. He didn't only show us the nice parts of Barbados, but also took us to poorer parts, which we really appreciated. It was a fantastic trip. The Wildlife Reserve was also included, which was nice but we all had bites so make sure you are well covered with Mozzi spray.
We did use a fantastic taxi driver called Glen to get aroung the Island, he's an absolute gentleman.
Yes we had a few beach sharks trying to sell us goods, but if you just said "no thank you" they would just go away. My two sons are teenagers and not once were we offered drugs! Maybe we were just lucky.
It is such a shame that this hotel is about to close it's doors. I really do hope that someone takes Escape At The Gap under their wing as it's a fantastic location.

Room Tip: The rooms across at Pirates are reserved for families, and they certainly seemed to be quieter than...

“A chilled out holiday...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Reception staff on arrival very stern, safe unavailable unless you give credit card details or 200BD,drink given before bags carried/shown to room directly next to reception, air con very noisy, room dated, but clean, nice cooked breakfast, lunch limited choice, tiny sandwiches & thin slice of cake @ 4pm,quickly devoured as often hungry by then, dinner ok-ish,again limited choice, bar staff variable, need to smile & ask you what would you like to drink, not just look at you.

Nice location on beach, hounded by sellers daily, but usually a polite "No Thankyou" suffices, drugs offered on beach & outside hotel,police/staff don`t seem bothered by this.

Virgin 3-stop trip to rum factory,Harrisons Caves & Sunset Cruise ok,but over-priced,best value for money & most fun of our whole holiday was the lovely MC Turtleman, pay 1/2 deposit when you book him & the rest after the trip, you can spend as long as you want(within reason) swimming amongst the turtles, shipwrecks, fishing, drinking rum punch or soft drinks(included)steer the boat, life jackets & snorkelling gear provided. He even rang my hotel room to ask when I was going home as he had a present for me(Turtle necklace he`d bought!)He was pleased with the blue,3-Lions England football shirt my boyfriend gave him,say hi to him from Jules & Shaun if you see him.

Room Tip: Avoid room directly next to the reception on the ground floor, can hear all the arrivals/departures,l...

Stayed here from Oct 27-30 and had a great time. The staff is helpful with anything you need and the beach is only seconds away. The taxi driver Glen is amazing helped us out many times he even stayed up until 5 am to take us to the airport after driving all day.The food is ok not the greatest but was fresh and hot.Being in the middle of the gap was perfect too as you were right near all the night clubs (about 5 mins walk) and a 3 min walk from a bus stop. All in all had a great time here too bad there moving soon would have come back to stay on my next trip.
