“Needs a bit of tlc”

Not the best of Barbados hotels but not the worst. The bar area is very uninviting and the breakfast is poor with little choice and no reflection of Barbados or Tropical cuisine. You would be lucky to get a decent shower in this hotel as the water pressure is very low. Staff are friendly and warm and always seem to try their best for the guests which is why I have given this hotel average instead of poor. Great location for 'The Gap' and the beach lies on the best part of the island with clear water and clean sand - few rocks.

Room Tip: Try to avoid checking in in the afternoon as it takes the housekeeping staff a long time to turn the...

“We Loved Divi SouthWinds Barbados”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We arrived on time to the resort. We were welcomed by Tyrone with a glass of rum punch. Our condo was ready, very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool and activities center the first day and many days to follow. The second day we wanted to walk to the grocery store, the front desk as very helpful in guiding us with directions and time it would take to walk. We thought all the staff was very friendly and helpful. The maid service was on top of things making sure we always had clean towels and clean rooms. The resort is very well cared for. At the Tuesday night cocktail party we met many wonderful and friendly people. We have two teenage boys that enjoyed themselves tremendously during our stay! They made two new friends and we enjoyed the company of their parents also. My husband and I loved sitting on the balcony in the evening listening to the frogs sing. I can't say enough about our stay and how pleased we were with the time we had at Divi SouthWinds Resort. The last day arrived to soon. Some of the island tours we did were Cool Running Catamaran. It was a fun filled day. We swam with sea turtles, snorkeled over beautiful coral the fish were beautiful to see, and we saw a sunken ship. The crew were very nice, we enjoyed Ryan's humor. The food was very good. We also did a Jeep Safari that was a nice day trip and anyone of any age can do that. The views are beautiful and the drivers are very knowledgeable about the entire island. We would also give Zed's Surf Shop a thumbs up! The guys had an awesome time learning to surf. They enjoyed it so much they surfed for three days!!

“Good location - bad management”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

We have been travelling to this resort for 20 years and are used to the typical problems and the poor service - the location, the property and the friendliness of the staff have always brought us back - not so sure after this visit. As owners of a time share we book (and pay) 6 months in advance and have an expectation that our room will be what we paid for - 5th floor Garden View - we also booked extra weeks 2 months before our trip. The Front Desk staff had no clue - no arrivals list - no allocated rooms - nothing ready - we had to wait 3 hours to get a room on the 5th floor - other guests were also getting the same treatment. When I complained to staff members they were sympathetic but no response from the General Manager - he is too busy I guess - I noticed he stayed with his staff at the Tuesday "Cocktail Party" - very little conversation with the guests - unbelievable in this day. The Wireless Internet was a rip-off - $52/week for poor service - lots of local internet cafes with good service and great prices.

Our room was very clean and kept that way although some of the amenities were missing -microwave, corkscrew etc. but this was minor stuff. The food as usual was nothing great and the service also not great but the prices were high - lots of good restaurants a short walk away. The swimming pools are fabulous - except the main pool was closed for 3 weeks being painted (by one man) and the beach pool has been out of order for years - still the members pool is nice and quiet - except when the main pool is closed!

The Resort seems to be going backward - it must be the management - most of the staff want to please but they either don't have the skills or are lacking the materials/equipment to deliver - lights in the stairs were out for the entire time we were there - called maintenance a number of times but no response - a safety hazard although security seems OK

It is a great location - the beach is wonderful and The Gap has everything you could wish for - so I guess we will go back but buyers beware!

TIP - dress up as Air Crew - they seem to be well looked after!

Room Tip: 5th Floor rooms have high ceilings - much more open and cool

“Don't believe the virtual tour. Accommodations are nothing like the tour. Staff was great. Booking company Vacations to Go took”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Booked a 2 bedroom suite. Virtual tour showed 2bedrooms, a dining table in a living room setting. Actually the bedrooms were up a steep staircase, half of which had no bannister. There was no table for dining only a bar with 4 stools. The "living room" had 2 chairs and a sofa. Let the byer beware.

“Great Location, thats about it...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This hotel has a great location, and 50% of the staff are lovely. The Bar and breakfast staff leave a little to be desired, dare you ask for tea instead of coffee at breakfast or extra salad instead of fries with your wrap. The Hotel has seen better days, but it is on par with other 3 star caribbean hotels. I have a few photo's of the bathroom which definately was edging on the side of disgusting, and unclean. As usual airconditioning was unfit for purpose, room couldn't get below 23c actually turned to heat at night to keep it at that temprature. As others have mentioned, the tap water temprature in the bathroom was lukewarm at most. the taps in the sink and the kitchen sink was boiling hot- why the bath/shower couldn't be- this seems to be a constant problem at this hotel regardless of the room- the kitchen sink even has a booster for hot water so they realise the mains isn't good enough.

I wouldn't choose this hotel and wouldn't revisit out of choice, however it seems, that it is one of the better hotels on The gap which is filled with basic all inclusive hotels.

Room Tip: Even number rooms are pool view, odd numbers noisy road view.
