“daily leaf blower alarm at 730am. no snooze option.”
Our experience at Time Out at The Gap had the potential to be so much better, so it was a little disappointing. The room was spacious, the bellhop Hayden is super helpful, the location can't be beat, but the gardener insists on blowing leaves at 730am. EVERY SINGLE DAY. So that put a damper on things, in terms of us being on vacation. There were maybe a handful of leaves scattered about that a rake would have been a much better choice, but we woke up to the leaf blower (with an occasional argument between the staff) every morning in Barbados. And if we managed to sleep past that, the hammering and sawing started: The woodshop (?) was right next to the guest rooms and they start early as well. Oh, and there was a dog in the yard of the home that is in the lot next to the hotel. It is a very loyal guard dog. It barked at EVERYthing.
There is field right across the street where locals play basketball and soccer during the evenings. It does not get too loud, and is quite entertaining, but for privacy make sure the curtains are drawn since the streets are narrow so people can see everything.
Internet was $10 (US) per day. And there is a tiny little cubicle in the lobby with a computer. There is also a pool in the hotel, but it got very little use when we were there since a beautiful beach is across the street!
The hotel also tried to charge us an extra $250 (US) our first day there, because we had 3 people, but all our expenses was already prepaid and pre-approved. During this discrepancy the lady at the front desk was pretty rude and nasty (would not make eye contact and would not let us use the phone to contact our travel agent without handing her a credit card). Hayden let us use his cellphone and saved the day! We ended up not paying the extra fees and the receptionist was courteous enough the rest of our stay there, but it definitely left a bad feeling with us.
So in general, aside from sleep and the quality of sleep, you get what you pay for in terms of accomodations.
It was great, though, to be able to cross the street and be on a beautiful beach.
