“Scruffy but nice”

I agree with other reviews that the Walmer is a bit past its sell by date but it does have some things going for it.we've stayed there 3 times so far and would stay there again.for us one of the main points is that it's not near the main touristy areas, more like the real Barbados.second point is the super beach at the back which is mostly almost empty. If you want to stay somewhere away from the ratrace, with a great beach, and dont mind roughing it a bit,Walmer lodge could just be for you.If you want all the comforts etc,try somewhere else

  • Liked — Real Barbados, away from the main tourist parts
  • Disliked — could do with a bit of a makeover

“Better going camping!”

I rented through Internet. The picture they post on their site is ABSOLUTELY false! A dump! We had exactly the same experience as the rewiew titled "Don't even think about it" We decided to forfeit our deposit and went looking for something else. If you plan on staying at the Walmer, you should instead think about going camping... We ended up in St-Lawrence Gap and it is THE place to be in Barbados!

“Awesome room”

It's not a four-star place by any means, but it was roomy and comfortable and had A/C and a full kitchen, not to mention it's a four-minute hike through a freakin' rainforest to the beach! For $50/night, what more could you ask for? It's not a luxury suite, but you're not paying for a luxury suite. For B$1.25 you can take the Zedar to Bridgetown and do all your shopping, and if you insist on a taxi, it'll cost you B$15 to get back. You can just as easily go to the Zedar station and ask for Blackrock, and you'll get dropped off by the TigerMart gas station and walk through the park to get back to the Walmer. The Walmer is very close to a few different restaurants, but you'll definitely want to eat at Bridgetown or St. Lawrence Gap. I loved the Walmer.

“Don't even think about it !”

We booked our stay through the Walmer Apt. website. On our arrival date to the hotel there was noone to greet us. After searching the grounds a man appeared from behind a bush holding a machete. When we asked him if there was anyone there, he said "no, they are all away home". He took us to our "room" where the key was hanging in the door and gave us a form to fill in. When we asked if he was in charge, he said "Now yes".
The atmosphere was getting more and more strange !!? The front picture of the hotel on their website is far from the reality. The hotel is on the main road, with a tiny little gravel square at the front and junk yard at the back. The building is in need of repair. The hotel was dead. We only saw one other couple. The studio room was on the corner near the road and was very noisy. There was no bed. Just two single sofa beds (no sheets provided). Furniture old and worn out, bathroom very basic with window looking onto corridor and room door far from secure. After looking at the room we turned around and left. The website is misleading. Good for backpackers but not for a romantic stay. P.S. : When I checked my bank statement, they had charged me for 3 nights.
