I decided to try Melbourne after staying there in 2002. Back then the place was a basic accommodation but was clean and in a good location. This time my experience was very different. The place has deteriorated tremendously. However for the price I was paying $75 US per night, I was not expecting luxury. What really concerned me about this stay was 1) cleanliness and 2) Owners attitude and approach to business. The 3 bedroom unit was not clean or really sanitary at all. Dust everywhere, kitchen appliances had physical rust and grime. We arrived on the island at 4 AM so when their office opened at 6-7 am we immediately let them know our concerns as we were traveling with 2 kids and a toddler. Since we had made a deposit, they refused to return, we asked to be transferred to another apartment. All other apartments were dusty, dirty and generally dilapidated. We eventually transferred to the Christ Church location which was better slightly and had AC. The really heart wrenching part of my stay was the owners response to our concerns with the Black Rock location. She said " if you called the place crap, I would not be offended, you get what you pay for." We were told by locals that it is a place men take their "outside" women or tricks. Despite our immediate complaint on the apartment and the fact that we transferred our deposit and stayed at her other location for 5 days, the owner still charged us full price for the 2 hours in the horrible unit. She really lacks professionalism and is an embarrassment to Barbados' high service standards. Do not stay in Black Rock unless you have to and buyer beware on Ms. Reed the owner. She just is not investing on keeping her properties in even basic shape.
