“Classic Bermuda”

Somewhat hard to find on the web (stumbled upon it on TA) - but hard to leave once you're there!

The personal service starts when you give Hazel a call and she takes care of all your needs from booking your room, arranging for Mr. Harris to pick you up at the airport, reserve a table in advance, etc. We were greeted with a pot of tea and Hazel's recommendations. She can (and will !!) plan out your itinerary while making notes on your copy of the Bermuda map. After our sit down with Hazel we knew where to go for lunch at the Dockyards, dinner in Hamilton, attractions in St. George's, best swimming beach, ... the list goes on. She has been on the island for so many years that everyone knows her. I think you could ask just about anyone (from the ferry pilot, waiters, shop keepers, art galleries) and they will know Hazel and Salt Kettle. Try it!

We lucked out and stayed in the Tower Room (it can be booked up many months in advance) which is on the 2nd floor and has windows on every side to catch nice breezes no matter which way the wind blows, and a private balcony to watch the sunset over the water. You will need to climb the flight of stairs up from the 1st floor bath, however, so this may not be a good choice for those with disabilities. There are other rooms on the ground floor and 2 cottages with views over the harbor to Hamilton. The skyline is beautiful at night and you won't miss the downtown noise or traffic. In the morning everyone meets for breakfast which is prepared by 2 lovely ladies and includes your choice of eggs, French toast, pancakes, muffins, juice and, of course, coffee. Basic fare (no sausage, onions, cheese, etc.) but enough to keep you going for the day.

The house a bit of a walk from the bus stop, but is literally just around the corner from the excellent ferry to Hamilton. A great way to get around while getting a waterside view of the Great Sound! The bus doesn't go everywhere so we rented scooters (they will come to pick you up at the house) in order to see some of the out of the way spots and to pick up wine and cheese at the market. Riding them is a bit scary at first, but just relax, keep to the left (British driving rules), and let the faster cars and bikes go by. Paget is centrally located so Salt Kettle is no more than 45 minutes from any place on the island.

The warm service attests to the many repeat visitors to Salt Kettle House. We intend to join them on our next trip to Bermuda!!

“Great place to stay and location for a first trip to Bermuda”

For our first trip to Bermuda, we feel we couldn't have had a better experience and location. Hazel and staff made us feel welcome and were able to give us all the necessary information regarding places to go, eat, etc. The easy walk to a ferry dock made traveling around Bermuda via the ferry system fun, enjoyable and reasonably priced - with the ferry pass. The wonderful breakfast served each morning often sustained us through most of the day. Rooms are not luxurious, but basic, clean and the property has beautiful plants and landscaping.

“Absolutely the most relaxing place in Bermuda”

I luckily stumbled upon Salt Kettle House on Tripadvisor and after reading all of the glowing reviews and the stories of having to book a year in advance I was hesitant to even call since my trip was last minute and in 2 weeks. Having never stayed in a guesthouse or B & B, I wasn't sure of what to expect. Fortunately I did pick up the phone and call and was delighted when the owner, Hazel Lowe, told me of a cancellation she had just had so I immediately booked a room. She was charming on the telephone and told me not to worry, she would take care of arranging my airport pickup and even had beach towels available for my stay. Having traveled to many countries around the world and stayed in some of the best hotels I was surprised when there was no deposit taken or confirmation number given. I've found very few hotels even in rural parts of Cambodia that don't demand that! I confess I did call back a week later just to confirm the reservation and after speaking with Hazel I could not wait to meet her in person. Well, when I arrived at Salt Kettle House I was immediately offered juice and was taken to the dining room table for Hazel to give me my map and pointers of where to eat and what to see. Having read of this in other reviews I was expecting this. Hazel then showed me the kitchen (since I had a room in the main house without a kitchen I was welcome to use the main kitchen. Cottages have their own kitchens) and then my room while pointing out different parts of this very historic house. She also reminded me that breakfast was every morning from 8 - 9 am. Rarely do I have coffee, juice, fruit and french toast made to order every morning but I did this trip! Breakfast is family style and I didn't know how I would like that but it's all very comfortable. I met some amazing people, most who had been coming for years, and some who I've stayed in touch with via Facebook. One couple has been coming for 3 weeks each year for 30 years! That says lot's about a place. The location is unbeatable, so easy to get to the beach on your scooter and the ferry is literally right around the corner which is nice when you want to go into town for dinner and not have to worry about getting back on the scooter. With water on 2 sides of Salt Kettle House I found myself sitting in the back in the morning and the front in the evening reading or talking to other guests. I can honestly say that this was the most relaxing vacation I have ever taken, even traveling solo. Hazel and her family are amazing and I really fell in love with them during my 4 night stay. They take a real interest in their guests, but I must add not to the point of intruding on your privacy if that's what you want. I enjoyed coming "home" at the end of each day and talking with Hazel and her son John about my day. It was actually sad to leave and I can't wait to go back and see my new friends at the Salt Kettle House.

“Quaint - Warm - Wonderful - A BIG HUG of a place - Don't Miss Out”

Salt Kettle House came highly recommended by friends as a great place to stay in Bermuda. This sweet/lovely B&B has so many qualities they are difficult to list them all but I will try - this B&B boasts:
Exceptional accommodations, food and service for a GREAT Price!
The most charming and accommodating staff I've ever enjoyed - from the cooks, chamber maids, service providers, and owner - They are just one BIG HUG of warmth.
A great/convenient location to the ferry, overlooks the bay, is close to great restaurants, and the setting is quiet and serene from other locations with a great view across the bay to Hamilton.
Breakfast offers traditional fresh baked muffins & fruit +++ made to order eggs and french toast/pancakes that are WONDERFUL! Such selection & quality is rare for a B&B.
The rooms and common areas are quaint, clean, and warm - evoking the true British charm and comfort inspired by the spirit of the owners.
Flowers and gorgeous landscaping abounds with 2 mascot ducks (that don't quack) but putter around the grounds.
Skip the touristy motels and hotels and get a great localized and warm experience with this AWESOME B&B! Our only accommodations in Bermuda from here on out!

“Wonderful guest house, owner and staff”

This was our first time here, but it won't be our last. Hazel (the owner) is wonderful and is well known on the island. She knows all the places to visit, where to eat, and will help you with any arrangements on the island. She has a wealth of Knowledge and can get you reservations all over.
Mind you this is not your all inclusive expensive resort. The rooms are clean and nice and the property is on the water in both the front and back. No TV (a plus in my book) other than public room. Each room does have a private bath and A/C.
Breakfast is included, and served by a wonderful staff. There is a small kitchen in your room and the use of grills in the back yard overlooking the sound with Hamilton as the backdrop. Tables, chairs and yes there is a hammock for relaxing. Each room does have a deck/patio for your use.
Hazel can arrange to have your plane met at the airport and can arrange transportation back. Scooter rentals can be arranged on site. The ferry to Hamilton is about a 5 minute easy walk. Access to the entire island is a snap.
The food store is nearby and has everything you need in the way of food and drink.
90% of Hazel's business is repeat business, and I can see why. No one ever wants to leave!
Call Hazel and discuss your trip. You will get an instant comfort level while speaking with this quaint innkeeper with 45 years experience on the island.
I got back last night and I want to go back now.......

Regards to you and your staff Hazel. We shall see you soon !
