just returned from another wonderful vacation to Bermuda. We have been going to Surf Side for 17 years and we love it as much as our first visit ...13 trips in 17 years. A few things have changed but, the basics which we care about are still there...the terrific staff, the clean room, the beautiful location on the ocean and the convenience to Hamilton and the local beaches. We miss the morning breakfast and being able to have a cocktail at the bar (Ashok was the best bartender) but, hopefully that will return and maybe even the restaurant someday. My wife and I have been traveling to Bermuda every five years since we spent our honeymoon there 21 years ago. We have always enjoyed staying at new places but our last visit was possibly our very best yet. This hotel was wonderful. Small enough to make it quite and intimate, but with a restaurant staff, quality of rooms, and views that made it very, very memorable.

We just came back from 14 days holiday in Surf Side. We were promised a restaurant on site and a beach. Didn't get either. The restaurant was closed back in January and the beach doesn't exist. We heard about a serious incident when a guest attempted to swim and was taken away by the ambulance, because where the beach was supposed to be there are just huge rocks. Staff explained that the beach "appearing and disappearing" with no warning, but in order for this beach to appear the sea would have to deposit 10m of sand, which is impossible. So do not kid yourself, there is no beach. The decor of rooms is circa 70s, which makes about 40 years of hard running. Nothing matches, as all furniture, curtains, etc look like they were bought at a garage sale. The air-conditioning system is really old and completely inefficient. We got the impression that no one cares about the future of this establishment.
The only good things are: the location (very central, near bus stop to Hamilton) and views.

We were impressd with the wonderful location, but not impressed by the the disinterested reception we had initially and subsequently during our stay. We arrived on a Sunday and we enquired about eating arrangements. We were told there was a place "just down the street" which turned out to be a mile away. When we got to our room we noticed that there was a brochure advertising their own restaurant and a Spa together with room service menu. We subseqently found out the facilities closed around January this year. The next day was the Labor Day holiday and most places were closed. Fortunately having been to Bermuda before, we knew our way around and found basic food stuff at Gas station shops. We just felt with a little bit of a friendly welcome, we could have been better informed.
