“Don't Go There with High Expectations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2009

The Sandpiper was extremely disappointing. We refused to stay in the first apartment we were offered, it was dark, dingy and needed complete refurbishment. The second was somewhat better but still very tired. We were due to stay a week but checked out after four nights. The view from the lounge/kitchen was of what appeared to be a run down building. The fridge door was rusty and the bedroom furniture was badly marked. The room sizes were adequate however.

The desk staff were at opposite ends of the spectrum. One was helpful and charming, the other was surly. The apartments were near to the Swizzle Inn and South Road bus stops.

“Terrible”

DO NOT GO THERE>
Their description is not true. The beach is awful and not as near as they say.
The accomodation is filthy.
The proprietor rude and frightening.
We left shortly after we arrived as the place was unacceptable but were penalised for two nights at 155 per night before we were allowed to leave by taxi which we had to rely on her to get for us.

“A Great Deal!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2008

We stayed at Sandpiper for 4 nights last May for a last-minute getaway. This was a wonderful bargain for Bermuda, especially in high-season when other hotels were 2-3 times the price -- rooms were clean, basic, not fancy, comfortable bed, kitchen was adequate (we only used it for breakfast). We had no security problems. Unlike a hotel, you're on your own, with no services other than housekeeping, which was fine. We were on the second floor with a little balcony overlooking the pool. The property drops down a bit from the road, so the front, where the pool is located, is more private, but the second floor rooms are almost level with South Shore Rd.. Next time we'll definitely stay in one of the rooms at the back, as the road noise at night was very loud and busy with motorcycles and big trucks doing night transporting! The pool was small but very refreshing. The bus stop was very close (and yes, a bus/ferry pass is the way to go!), and the Swizzle Inn II was only a few buildings away! It was a bit of a hike to the beach -- 3 minute walk down the road, then down a pathway, then down a steep and very long stairway to a long deserted beach! (going down was way easier than coming back up!) This was a different experience from our other stays in Bermuda, but a good inexpensive way to be there. We would certainly consider staying there again, and recommend it to others wanting a budget no-frills option for this amazing, beautiful, friendly island!

“not as bad as some of the review say”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2007

ok its on a main road but its really not that bad, just get ear plugs

low cost place to stay and quite big rooms actually, book one of the larger apartments, its worth it

small pool but nice enough and really nobody around the pool most of the time

ok gardens for sunbathing and sitting around, not large but good enough.

room a little tired, but for the price you are paying in "expensive" bermuda it does the job

good to have your own kitchen although its a little out of date and marked, it does the job

nice to have gas and coal BBQ in the gardens to use for free

good location 2 mins walk to the swizzle inn and 2 mins a gas station for food and drink

get a scooter you will need it

staff need to be a bit more friendly.

guess its down to how much you want to pay. good value for little money overall

“Great Place and Excellent Price”

I am very happy with my choice to stay at Sandpiper. I booked a 9 night stay at the Sandpiper the last week in July. My room was clean and spotless on my arrival and during my stay. The room was very spacious for a studio, although it was 2 of us, I am sure 3 people would be comfortable in the room we had. The front lawn was well mantained as well as the pool they have on the grounds. We wheeled the BBQ to our room almost every night and BBq'd on our patio. (They have a few on the property for the guest use). The guest we talked to around the pool were enjoying their stay at sandpiper because of the distance to all the beautiful beaches and the public transport as well as the price you pay and the size and cleanliness of the rooms. Wanda at the front desk was always willing to assist in arranging things to do or providing us with information about her island(very pleasant girl).
I am very happy I chose the sandpiper apartments
