We stayed at Sandpiper for 4 nights last May for a last-minute getaway. This was a wonderful bargain for Bermuda, especially in high-season when other hotels were 2-3 times the price -- rooms were clean, basic, not fancy, comfortable bed, kitchen was adequate (we only used it for breakfast). We had no security problems. Unlike a hotel, you're on your own, with no services other than housekeeping, which was fine. We were on the second floor with a little balcony overlooking the pool. The property drops down a bit from the road, so the front, where the pool is located, is more private, but the second floor rooms are almost level with South Shore Rd.. Next time we'll definitely stay in one of the rooms at the back, as the road noise at night was very loud and busy with motorcycles and big trucks doing night transporting! The pool was small but very refreshing. The bus stop was very close (and yes, a bus/ferry pass is the way to go!), and the Swizzle Inn II was only a few buildings away! It was a bit of a hike to the beach -- 3 minute walk down the road, then down a pathway, then down a steep and very long stairway to a long deserted beach! (going down was way easier than coming back up!) This was a different experience from our other stays in Bermuda, but a good inexpensive way to be there. We would certainly consider staying there again, and recommend it to others wanting a budget no-frills option for this amazing, beautiful, friendly island!
