After staying here for 6 nights last January, we returned for 9 nights this year. It was supposed to be 10, but our flight down was cancelled to the following morning. No problem! I just called the hotel and in about 1 minute had it all fixed up to hold the reservation till the next day, and no extra charge for the no-show.
I agree with all comments made by others about the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. It was particularly nice to be recognized and warmly welcomed back by several staff members. The service level here is remarkable, even by the high standards of the Fairmont chain. We were upgraded a long way, from a basic room with garden view to a Harbour View room in the recently renovated and improved Bermudiana House. This gave us a lovely balcony view of gardens and Hamilton Harbour, as well as ample space in the room, a Keurig coffeemaker, and a regular and rainforest shower in the bathroom.
The morning breakfast buffet in Harley's Restaurant was wonderful, and included several selections appropriate for restricted diets which we really appreciated. It's possible to custom-order omelettes, egg whites, and eggs cooked all ways as part of the buffet price -- but not all the servers remember to tell you that, so make sure you ask. The coffee is really excellent -- compared to other places in Bermuda which skimp on coffee beans or even throw instant coffee at you.
The heated pool overlooking the harbour is large, and surrounded by dozens of lounge chairs. The pool and surroundings were carefully cleaned daily, and there was an ample supply of good large towels always available. There's also a free ferry and bus shuttle service to the beach club of the sister property, the Fairmont Southampton, but we did not use this.
We had two minor glitches regarding housekeeping, and on both occasions dialed the housekeeping line on the phone. In both cases there was no answer, and the call ended up getting taken by the hotel operator. Very quick action followed each time. However, maybe this hotel should take an idea from others and just create a one-number-for-all-services system, which simplifies things greatly for the guests.
All in all, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess is fully up to the standards of a luxury hotel, with the advantages of being close to Hamilton with all its shops and restaurants. We can't recommend this hotel highly enough, and we will certainly return here on our next visit to Bermuda!
Room Tip: Ask for a Harbour View room in Bermudiana House, on the top floor if possible.
