I can't say enought about the Bucuti! It was a fabulous trip from the minute we arrived until we, sadly, had to leave.
We were greeted by the manager before we reached the lobby, and escorted into the check in area. Instead of standing in line somewhere, we were offered champagne, cool damp face towels, and comfy seats. We were informed of all of the amenities (including free wifi on the entire resort) and locations of everything. They refilled our champagne as we headed to our room.
The rooms were comfortable and nice. We did not notice any smell as other reviews have stated. There was a humidifier in the room that made some noise, but not any more than the air purifier I have at home. We had a garden view room. It overlooked some trees with a parking lot behind the trees - if that is a problem for you, stay in the Tara building which directly overlooks the beach. It wasn't a problem for us. There was a nicely appointed mini bar in our room, but we didn't use it. Instead, we stopped at the gift shop and got a bottle of wine and some beer, which we kept in the refrigerator. A nice touch was the wine glasses in the room - I hate drinking my wine out of a water glass! Another nice thing was the microwave and utensils in the room, so I could enjoy my leftovers!
The beach: aaaahhh! Clean, quiet, beautiful! There were always enough palapas for everyone. The ones right by the waters' edge are prime so we did get up early one morning to put our towels on one of them (early being 8ish), and one morning we just lucked out and got one around 11am. The cushy seats at the pool never fill up so they are
also always available. The beach servers walk around and give out flags that you stand up in the sand whenever you want food or drinks delivered right to your lounge chair. Some mornings they even walked around with cool wet towels - nice touch. I have to mention Orville and Angelo (bar, beach service) were outstanding, prompt, courteous, and so friendly.
The included daily breakfast buffet was good. The food is in a covered area, then you bring your food out to tables right on the beach. How can you beat breakfast in the morning sun staring at the carribean! Included was eggs, bacon, sausage, omelettes, fruits, salmon, breads, pastries, etc. Never had to wait in line and never a problem getting a table. Dinner is also served here.
The bar - best location ever! Right on the beach, beautiful sunset view. Happy hour is from 4-6 and 9-10 daily with half price frozen and mixed drinks with steel drum players. We met so many fun people there and, believe me, those drinks are not watered down!
We ventured down to the high rise area one day, and it was like "spring break". The palapas are on top of each other and, from what I heard, you have to get up at 5 or 6 am to even get one. That's not my idea of a vacation. There were also so many kids around. Don't get me wrong, I love kids - even have my own, but I didn't feel like dealing with them on this vacation. There are no kids allowed at the Bucuti and it was enforced.
One recommendation: we reserved private dinner on the beach. It was so romantic and very reasonably priced - do it!
This is just the perfect place to go for a quite, restful vacation. We were treated like we were royalty, and that is what means the most to me at a resort - I dont like to feel like i am just a number. I have no complaints whatsoever, and I will definitely be going back. Loved it.
