Ok, so I've read all the reviews from positive to negative & I have to agree with all in part! The resort itself is lovely. If you want quiet & small it's the place to be. Yes, it may be slightly dated but the beds are huge & comfy and the air con works..... what more do you need? If you can get somewhere in Phase II they're neater & bigger. You do have to walk over the road to the beach but it's hardly a challenge..... probably only 1 minutes walk from most apartments. There are free loungers and shades on the beach for people staying at La Quinta & compared to the bigger resorts up the road, it's very quiet. There are 2 pools, the one in Phase II is bigger & has the bar but both were almost always empty & lovely for cooling off. The grounds are well maintained and most of the staff are very friendly and helpful (I agree a couple do need lessons in customer service though!!) Ok, the negatives: We arrived after a 12hr journey to be greeted with a list of charges we'd have to pay. Most of it is room tax that isn't the hotel's fault but we had no warning. There was also a 20USD charge per room, per week to use in the pool bar. We had 2 rooms for 2 weeks so this was 80USD. Fortunately the bar has lovely food and drink & we spent well over the 80USD. The Wednesday all you can eat BBQ is a must!! However, when we went to pay, we hadn't charged 40USD to each room (charged it all to 1) so were charged an extra 40USD despite the staff knowing we were all together and had spent well over that. Very unreasonable!! The charges faced at the end were a ridiculous amount. You have to pay for internet. It's 20USD for 1 computer for each week, 15USD for each computer after that if it's charged to the same room.
The housekeepeing staff were brilliant but we only found out when we left that you have to pay for it! Basically, they charge for anything they can, so check everything!!

Some things they don't charge for: Clean beach towels every day (Very useful!) and they will make any reservations for you (Meals, day trips etc.) free of charge.

It would have been perfect if it weren't for the extra charges. They really spoilt it for us. The rest was lovely!

The Screaming Eagle is an amazing restaurant..... we saved it for last night as it's quite expensive, but well worth it!!

The La Quinta is a little bit dated, but other than the bed, it was very nice. At the check in, McKeisha was wonderful, and when we told her we were heading to a sunset sailing cruise, she offered us a ride in her car (saving a cab fare). The resort is across the street from the beach. The beach is beautiful, and when we were in the water, the man running the chair booth opened up and set up chairs for us.
There are two pools, one is smaller and fine for a quick dip. The larger pool has the Shon Gecko bar/restaurnt. Don, who runs it, is very nice, and the food is very good. Overall, a worthwhile place to visit. Make sure you rent a jeep and drive to the east side of the island and have fun. The natural pool is well worth the trip, but the road is very steep and rough!!

BTW, the mattrass on our double bed was shot. There was a firm "hump" in the middle, and each side sagged almost to the floor!!

Let me just start off with Myself my husband and our daughter have been coming to Aruba for over 10 years and never ever had any issues, except for the one time we decided to stay somewhere other than our actual timeshare ( because we were told it wasnt available). I have never had to check into a resort where they hand you your remotes for the tv a contraption to make the AC work and a huge metal cover for the safe not to mention our luggage up three flights because the elevator was broken. when we entered to room there was an overpowering smell of bug spray the room looked old and dingy and we were told we had a two bedroom NOT a lock off. once nighttime came we had either termites or carpenter ants all over the room including in the towels. we did not feel safe at this resort what so ever and as far as the beach goes you had to walk across the street and through the bushes to get there, this beach is also a hot spot for the locals so you are also walking around there cars to get there. we ended up staying here for one LONG night and checked out as early as possible. Stay far away from this place if you want to have a good vacation!!

My husband and I exchanged into this property for a one bedroom on the second floor of phase II. Upon checking in we were told that we would be charged $16.28 per day to cover the timeshare tax and utility charge. They also charge a non-refundable $20.00 which you must use at the pool bar on drinks or food. You also pay a refundable deposit to get your room keys, a plastic card that turns the air conditioning on, safe keys, beach towels and remote controls for the television. The first thing you are asked to do is take inventory of everything in the room and report anything that is missing. Shouldn't that be the staff's job before they let anyone check into a room? We noticed that the inventory listed a DVD player but it certainly wasn't in the room so we reported that to the front desk and they told us it would be provided the next day by the housekeeping staff. Never happened. The elevator was out of order when we arrived which meant that we had to haul all of the suitcases etc. up the steps to our room, glad it was only on the second floor. Our initial reaction was disappointment to say the least. The kitchen layout is cramped and inconvenient and there is no dishwasher or washer/dryer in the unit. The resort also does not supply any soap to clean your dishes. Upon moving the coffee pot (for which there were no filters or coffee) I disturbed a lizard that had taken up residence on the kitchen counter. When I attempted to catch him he retreated under the microwave oven where he remained for the balance of our stay. The "view" from our room included a large blue rusting crane in a vacant lot but you could see the beach beyond that. The pool area in phase One was smaller and surrounded by lots of tropical greenery. The pool in phase II was larger and also had a bar where you could order food and drinks (this is where you had to spend the $20 they charge you when you check in). This is a large concrete area with very little shade and no greenery at all. The bar offered a variety of items on the menu however we were never quite sure what there hours of operation were. Each time we asked the bartender about ordering something from the menu he would say the kitchen was closed or was about to close. On one occasion my husband commented to the bartender/owner that he must have closed early on Sunday. The bartender responded "I don't have to ask you when I should close and besides you have never ordered anything from me since you got here." How rude, how does he stay in business, that must be the reason for the automatic nonrefundable $20 charge. There is no free internet or phone calls. The best I can say is that the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the housekeeping staff did clean our room and make the bed every day. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful in making reservations for tours and restaurants. The section of Eagle beach located across the road from the resort is reserved for people staying at La Quinta. The attendant provides you with chairs and places them under a shaded grassy umbrella but there are no other services on the beach, bring your own beverages.
