“HORRID”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2010

I came to sandpiper expecting the pictures and virtual tour i had seen on another site and let me tell you, it was the biggest bull shi* i have ever seen. The outside gate is held together with a chain link and it looks like a ragged, worn out prison. The hotel rooms are very, very run down; the bathroom floors are falling apart, the sinks and faucet are lined with rust, the toilet was in such a bad shape that i considered handling my business in the wide ocean nearby (i didn't tho). The place is also infested with rats and roaches which you only notice at nighttime, just when you think the place couldn't be any worse, you get to meet the staff. They have one person sitting as a "security guard, manager, custodian, plumber, electrician, wizard". The place also had rusty brown water, a surprise you get to wake up to as you begin brushing your teeth. A ridiculous place and at exorbitant prices, the lady even tried to charge me for using their towels. Please if you can stay ANYWHERE ELSE, unless your hell bent in seeing what is but a remnant of a beautiful hotel left prey to neglect and sheer foolishness. Also if you end up staying here because you are on ____ then please check your bedspread several times, most of them have fleas on it...a pathetic ending to a even more pathetic hotel.

Although it was some time ago, April 2000, my wife and I stayed at Sandpiper Reef for 14 nights at Eastertime that year. We booked through Thomsons on an all inclusive deal and it was fantastic. I don't think you can get all inclusive now, so I would expect it to be very expensive on an other board basis. The reception we received was great, even though it was a small hotel, 24 rooms as I remember. The room we had was large with a refrigerator and kingsize bed. The meals were fantastic as were the staff except for one lady called Angela who was a character but she was entertaining with her lack of charm and made up for the lack of entertainment which consisted of a steel band once or twice during the two weeks. The sunbeds were hard, made of wood with no mattresses and the wind was incessant, but after a few days we did not notice it. We did hire a jeep from Avis, the standard of the vehicle was frightening considering the profile of the company, but it made the excursion a real adventure. We would not hesitate to stay there again at the right price but I think it would be too expensive for us now, but I may be wrong. We paid £2500.00 for the 14 nights on all inclusive in 2000. I hope this helps anyone who may want to stay there as well as the proprietors who deserve to have people stay there.
