“Our 4th great visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Just got back from our 4th visit January/February 2012. All the staff are so friendly even new staff who didn't know us couldn't be more pleasant. We had fantastic rooms it's worth upgrading to the beach ones. For a 3 star hotel this is very good value indeed. I think some people expect 5 star for 3 star prices after reading some of the reviews on this site. They really can't do enough for you. I highly recommend a visit. Gill & Roger

Room Tip: Beach front if you can go to it, - lovely

“Good value Caribbean holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

This hotel is beautifully situated on the fabulous sandy beach of Dickenson bay. For a 3 star resort the accomodation was of a good standard (we had a poolside room which I think are the best to go for). All inclusive worked very well, drinks were of a good standard and the wine was perfectly drinkable. We dined 4 nights on the Warri pier which was a most pleasant experience, but do book well in advance. The usual night buffets were very average, food was plentiful and of a good standard but served on a cold plate spoilt the experience.
All the staff were very friendly and attended to any problems rapidly.
Insect bites were a problem but that occurs all over Antigua. Overall a great holiday.

Room Tip: Poolside downstairs are quiet and very handy for the pool

“Perfect holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The Halcyon Cove provided a perfect two week holiday for my sister and myself. The rooms were quiet and excellent for sleeping, an important consideration for us, and all seem to be accessible to the beach in swimming costume and bare feet. Both our rooms had a view of the sea and, with their balconies, were pleasant places to be rain or shine.

There were quite a few clouds, helping to protect from the sun, and it rained for short durations, often at night - rarely causing other than a few minutes hesitation in whatever we were doing. There was always a breeze, often quite strong, and there was an occasional strong squall accompanying a shower - usually preceded by a clear black-cloud warning.

The beach and swimming are first class - there are wooded hills around the bay and there was light traffic on the water, commercial and pleasure ships, sailing boats and jet skis - available for hire from the beach. Pelicans, other colourful birds and small lizards were a delight.

Taxis are readily available at the hotel and the local bus service is practical to St.Johns and from there to other parts of the island - the small bus begins when it is full at the terminal, but that proved to be quite frequently. Sailing catamaran and motor boat tours are also available at the hotel.

Most fellow guests were "all inclusive" and reported good dinners. We had our own agenda so took only the "breakfast plan" - the buffet was good. We had several good lunches on the hotel's beach-side patio and found that there were at least six non-hotel restaurants within walking distance, three on the beach - all of them good but not cheap.

The hotel is no longer brand new but service was excellent and anything that was not working was fixed quickly. It met our needs admirably. Overall a very happy holiday.

“Very Relaxing Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Bear in mind the Halcyon Cove Resort is a three star resort as indicated. However, there are many attributes to this small resort that must be mentioned. The food, though not a large variety, is excellent with a different venue each evening. The omelettes, prepared by Colin, are the best. He takes just that little extra care in preparation. We stayed in a spacious garden view room with a beautiful view of the ocean. The plumbing has its ups and downs but was manageable. The powdery white sand beach is superb and only about a minute's walk from any room. We always found lounge chairs even though we came to the beach mid morning every day. There is a variety of enjoyable outdoor evening entertainment. However, this is not the resort for those looking for wild night life parties. At the beach bar, Heather, Dolston and Errol mix up some awesome drinks. The Warri Pier Restaurant, (the only a la carte) has a limited but tasty all inclusive menu. We were entertained by watching the large fish swimming along side the restaurant. The staff at the resort are very warm and friendly always wanting to ensure that we were enjoying our stay. This small, clean and cozy resort is one that is definitely worth visiting.

“Genuine Review - What a Dump, DON'T go all inclusive”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I had to write a list on the back of the welcome letter just get the room operating. I am a easy going chap and am willing to give people a chance. I was rewarded with a Quarter Bottle of local Rum and a plate of fruit.

BUT - that was just the start of the incompetence.

The early morning knock up - even when we made our own 'do not disturb' sign

No towels on three different occaisons - tried the phone and visits to reception, still waited an age.

No Coffee or Whitener - reception refused to believe us

A ticket which only gave us one beach towel for two people for one day - The towel lady sorted that out for us.

We tried the beer - flat tasteless served in a filthy cracked plastic beaker

The food is some of the worst I have come across. I can not understand why they have purchased the cheapest food on the planet and then gone on to serve to people who have no option but to eat it because they have spent their hard earned money on an all inclusive.

It totally obvious the management are clawing back money on the products supplied for the all inclusive - it's all wrong. The sister hotel closed two years ago - I am not surprised.

As a side issue, the night before we left there was a proper downpour. At one of the main entrances to the beach a 4 foot deep hole had washed out of the sand. What bothered me was no one from the hotel or otherwise made an attempt to mark it off or fill it in by 3pm the next day.

Overall whatever price paid, this place is very tired, the rooms are just liveable but only if you have paid next to nothing for the it. The Food and Drink is the cheapest the management can buy.

The staff are unhappy because all they hear are complaints, their attitute is bound to be hard - it's not their fault, it's the management,

A very run down Butlins

Dear Touring the world slowly
Thank you for posting your comments on your stay.
It is most regretful that we were unable to fulfill your expectations on your recent stay and we do apologize for any inconsistencies in service that you may have experienced.
In reading other guest reviews on this forum and from the general feedback received by management it would seem that your experiences are not typical of the resorts operation.
We can assure you that we purchase our food and drinks from the very same suppliers that other hotels do on the island and the management and staff strive at all times to ensure that our guests receive more value for their money as a three star property and that many of our guests have praised the food, service and the welcome and friendliness they receive at Halcyon Cove.
Please be assured of our best intentions at all times.
