“Pure relaxation at a reasonable cost”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My wife and I just returned from BCC and I can't say enough positive things about it.

Two Questions: Do you want comfort and quiet relaxation? Do you require luxury and nightlife? If your answers are Yes and No, BCC will be perfect for you.

Location: On the southern/western edge of Dickenson Bay, just below Siboney, Antigua Village and Sandals.

Layout: This is a very small resort with only 18 rooms. When entering from the road, think of a backwards "L". Coming through the gate, one building (rooms 1,2,11,12) is to your right, parallel to the street. The small office is ahead to your left. Following the sidewalk that goes straight to the beach, there are three buildings on your left and a good sized pool (maybe 30' x 15') on the right. The closest building is rooms 3,4,13,14 then 5,6,15,16 and 7,8,17,18 closest to the beach. Right at the short fence that leads right out to the beach are the 2 two bedroom units, cottage 1 and 2. All of the other units have one bedroom, a large bathroom, good sized living room and small but well equipped kitchen. All units have a patio or balcony. All of the balconies are the same size and large enough for two chairs and a small table. Patios for rooms 5,6,7,8 are larger than the rest, with a small dining table and 3 or 4 chairs.

Rooms: We were in unit 13. Single number rooms are ground floor and rooms in the teens are one flight up. The kitchen has a small full size refrigerator, sink, microwave and toaster over. There is no full oven. You can ask for a coffee maker. There are ample pots, pans, cups and mugs with plates and bowls for 4. The living room has a TV on the wall and large sectional sofa. The A/C unit over the back kitchen wall was operated by remote control. The bedroom was smallish but not tight, also with a wall TV, remote A/C, large dresser and closet. There was a safe in the closet. The bathroom was very large with a long counter, though only one sink.

Beach: Walk through the gate between the two cottages and you're on the beach. It's small but was never crowded. Remember, this is a very small resort. The beach was perfectly sandy with no rocks outside of the two jetties that flanked each side of the beach. To the left was open land and beach, I think for a development that appears stalled. To the right, the Coconut Grove Restaurant is right there for drinks or food. To the right from BCC's beach is the Siboney, another tiny resort, the Antigua Village, an older looking condo complex with zero beach, Sandals Grande Antiguan and finally a Rex resort at the top end of Dickenson Bay.

Pool: Wonderful. Large enough for this small resort with plenty of lounges and 3-4 umbrellas. The back wall that separates it from Siboney next store featured a huge bougainvilla bush. With that and all of the palms and other trees, you would have to look closely to find Siboney from the pool area. And there was no music! Unlike large resorts that seem to want to play loud caribe tunes all day, the BCC pool area was blissfully quiet, broken up only by the birds.

Staff: Also wonderful. Very pleasant and helpful when requested. Rooms were cleaned every day.

Arrival/Departure: At the end of the review, as it's not related to BCC. We came in on American non-stop from JFK and everything went smoothly at the airport, which clearly needs to be replaced. That's in the works but it'll be years before anything happens. We rented from Avis and were given an old Diahatsu Terios with 60K+ miles. After a couple of days, I called in when the Check Engine light came on and it was replaced with a much newer and nicer Kia Sportage. No hassle, they brought the Kia and took the junker away, hopefully to be retired. On returning the car, it took awhile but not any real problems. Leaving on AA was also uncomplicated.

Groceries: Top Choice is a large, full service grocery store that's maybe a mile away.

Would We Return: ABSOLUTELY. On an island where it would be easy to spend a lot more than we did ($229 US per night), the BCC was a bargain. With a car, it's well located for restaurants or to go into St. John's. Without a car, Coconut Grove is right there and there are other bars up the beach for drinks or lunch. A casino and Putters restaurant are only a very short walk.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms 5,6,7 and 8 have larger patios than the rest.

“Great suites with direct access to Dickenson beach.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

What a wonderful location to vacation with young adult children! We had two suites (7&8) for ten days. We had everything we needed in the kitchens and a grocery store less than 10 minutes away. The beach is beautiful. The service was great. Nice pool. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
There are around 16 suites and 2 cottages. It's quiet, well managed and maintained and there was someone on duty 24 hours a day. Lovely, lovely.

“A gem of a place”

We stayed at BBC Antigua for a few days at the end of November. It's located on the edge of the development at Dickenson Bay. To the north are the dystopian nightmares of some very large all inclusive resorts with plenty of guards; to the south is scrubland and a lake with plenty of wildlife. There are a few restaurants, bars and grocery shops nearby. Of note is Chippy Antigua, a mobile fish and chip shop which locates itself 50m away twice a week. One of the largest supermarkets in Antigua (1st Choice Foods) is 20 minutes towards St Johns. The bedrooms and kitchen are well appointed and comfortable. The A/C helps a lot. There is a nice beach and a well maintained swimming pool. Many of the plants in the BBC garden have identification labels - a nice touch.

Room Tip: Ask for one upstairs; there will be less bugs up there

“Eccellente non è abbastanza (Excellent isn't enough)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

Io e mia moglie siamo stati solo 1 settimana, siamo ripartiti a malincuore e sicuramente ritorneremo.
Arrivederci.
My wife and I stayed only 1 week, we back home reluctantly and certainly will return. The resort is within a small and very intimate beach, the apartments are well kept and equipped, common areas and pool are very welcoming.
What about staff? All professional yet friendly, confidential and kind.
A special praise to the manager Simonetta always present with her sympathy and great tips. Best wishes also to Michelle, the secretary, who always welcomes you with a smile and makes the best to help you.
Goodbye

Room Tip: all good choice.

“The Right Choice for Me”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

After much deliberation, I chose BBC for my first visit to Antigua since I wasn’t renting a car (not ready for the left side of the road yet) and nearby amenities. On arrival, the office staff was friendly and the reservation in order. I purchased water and juice - very convenient – and was taken to my unit #5, on the first floor pictured on their home page. The apartment looks just like the photos online, so I didn’t include any. I should have taken a picture of the bathroom though – extremely spacious, with a long granite vanity and lots of drawers. Everything was spotless and working well except for the living room tv. Jamaal immediately came to see if he could fix it, and when he couldn’t, had maintenance replace the cable box, which remedied the problem. The grounds are spectacular and immaculately maintained, with informational postings about the species of trees and animals. Right outside of the property is Coconut Grove, close enough to be considered an on-site restaurant with service all day. The food was good and could be packaged to take back to your apartment. Just past Antigua Village (the neighboring condo development with a mini-mart) is Pepperz n Lime, a new Mexican restaurant also with good food and friendly, accommodating wait staff. I had ceviche and margaritas there on more than one occasion. On my birthday I chose to snorkel with Wadadli Cats, who picked me up just north of Sandals (about a 15 minute walk on the beach). Along the cruise to Cades Bay, our guide pointed out significant sights with humorous anecdotes. Unfortunately the jelly fish season was beginning; I have been stung before and the abundance of young jelly fish put a damper on my enjoyment of snorkeling the reef. The onboard buffet was delicious, with open bar, followed by a relaxing stop at a beach with plenty of sea glass (I think Turner’s). That night I had a delicious dinner at Le Bistro – it was so good I posted a separate review. Later in the week I asked BBC to arrange a tour for me to visit other parts of the island and beaches. Their “house” taxi/tour person, Barry, took me on a very informative trip through downtown St. John’s, the harbor areas, inner roads full of banana trees (called figs in Antigua) and a stop at Darkwood Beach for a swim. Booking a tour with him is highly recommended; if I return to Antigua I’ll book a tour with him to the east coast. The property has free use of their laundry, which was a plus. I was very pleased with my stay at BBC, and would only request a room on the second floor next time for more privacy and quiet – the pool was right outside of my apartment and children started their fun there before I was ready to get up. The office, grounds and housekeeping staff are all exceptional and I will definitely stay here again if I return to Antigua.
