I stayed at Allamanda for 9 nights, Feb 19-28, with my husband, two kids(9&11) and my sister and brother in law. We had a great time and thought Allamanda was a great deal.
It was our 3rd time on Anguilla, having stayed at Cap Juluca and Ku, in previous years.
We had a one bedroom apartment (king bed with p/o sofa in kitchen/living area. The furnishings are a bit dated and the bathroom tired but we had everything we needed. The kitchen was well supplied (only missing a teflon frying pan) and I cooked dinner for us 6 nights out of 9. The beds were super hard, so if that's a problem don't stay here! The cleaning women and the rest of the staff were always helpful and kind. Karolyn at the front desk was very helpful with my planning our vacation and patient with all of my questions. All of the people we met at Allamanda were fun and seemed to have few complaints. We often felt that we were at a private villa when at the pool, because no one was ever around, and I think the hotel was about 90% occupied.
My sister took great pleasure in eating Chef Shamash's lemon pasta at Zara's, and listening to him sing as she sat on her patio each night. Our biggest complaint was not with Allamanda, but with the cost of everything on the island. The only true value on the island is Uncle Ernie's on Shoal Bay (down by Ku). There you can get a rum punch for $5.00 vs. $9.00-12.00 elsewhere, and either chicken or ribs with fries and coleslaw for $7 and $9.00. Truly the best and possibly the only deal on the island. We also think this area is the best part of the best beach on the island. So, go to Allamanda with reasonable expectations, enjoy the best beaches in the world, eat at Uncle Ernies, enjoy Chef Shamash's singing, bring lots and lots and lots of money, go home , work, and repeat!!!!
