“Perfection on Shoal Bay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

I hate it has taken me so long to write a review of this wonderful place. We stayed at Shoal Bay Villas for eight days in April 2010 and were absolutely delighted with our choice. We had an oceanfront upper floor one bedroom apartment and this was the best choice. Definitely worth the extra money to have the view. The unit itself was roomy and bright and the balcony had a nice sized table with chairs. Each morning we both enjoyed coffee and worked on our laptops while enjoying the gorgeous view of East Shoal Bay sand and water. The Villas are on the best part of the beach. Beautiful, uncrowded wide sandy beach and clear calm water. Perfect for walking to both ends. The value for the location and size of unit was terrific.

Although we could have cooked in the kitchen we ate out all meals except a few breakfasts. Our favorite places were Gwen's Reggae Grill and Uncle Ernie's. We pretty much stayed at the property but one day Monica helped us with a car rental to explore the entire island. We visited every beach, went to a few other restaurants for lunch, dinner and drinks but confirmed our spot at Shoal Bay Villas was the most perfect in Anguilla and in fact of all our Island travels (Grace Bay T&C, Paradise Island, St. John, Maui, Oahu, Aruba, Negril,Cancun, Playa Del Carmen. ) We will definitely return to Shoal Bay Villas.

“We love this place.”

This is the fourth place we have stayed on the island, the second on Shoal Bay. Shoal Bay is the most beautiful place in the world, and while more active than most Anguilla beaches, we can attest that it isn't too busy. Just enough to have the Madeireman, Gwen's and Uncle Earnie's walking distance. The service at the hotel is first rate, from the owner, maintenance, cleaning staff, office management. We loved them all and miss them already.

“Wonderful villas and incredible location with friendly service, feels like home almost immediately!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

The villas are located on Shoal Bay East one of the best beaches on the island and possibly in the entire Caribbean. Arrangements for accommodation were easy to make and everything was as it should be on arrival. Arrangements for our rental car and licence were incredibly simple. The services provided by the office were friendly and efficient. items like restaurant reservations and the previously mentioned car rental are great examples.

We stayed in a deluxe oceanfront one bedroom on the ground floor which provided both an incredible view and ease of access to the beach. The villa was well appointed and in good condition. The bathroom appears to have been recently remodelled.

The villa location is the best the island has to offer. This is reflected in the rate and is genuinely a case of "you get what you pay for" and we certainly felt, although not inexpensive, the investment was worth the cost.

The staff were excellent particularly our housekeeper. The other guests were very friendly, the villa felt very quickly as though it was our home, blessed with many great neighbours. The two mile beach is to die for, powder cream coloured sand, warm ocean water of azure blue fantastic for swimming. The Coral reefs were easily accessible and provided wonderful snorkelling and scuba opportunities. The temperatures were 27 C each and every day usually under sunny skies. The evenings warm and comfortable for sleeping. The winds did provide some fun and challenge during the week with high waves on some days. This caused us to reduce our snorkelling and diving but added to the fun during our swims.

We are accustomed to 4-5 star accommodation, although strictly from an amenities standpoint the villas do not provide some of items now considered standard, we found Shoal Bay Villas met most of our expectations and exceeded others. If you are searching for a quiet restful place where you meet some of the friendliest people anywhere and to "get away from the craziness" of your daily life this IS the spot, if you are looking for 5 star amenities and incredible night life Shoal Bay is most definitely not for you.

We will be back!

“another great vacation at SBV”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

My wife & I spent returned to SBV in early Aug '10 and loved it once again. We stayed there 2 weeks in May '07. Both times an ocean front suite with full kitchen. We've never had a problem with anything. The trade breezes blowing completely thru the ocean front suites feel terrific. SBV has knocked down its former Sandpipers grill on its east side and plans to add more rooms. We always rent a car and explore the island & places to eat. SBV has extremely competitive rates, and with it permitting up to 2 kids free per villa, it's a real bargain. Kids love the pool along with the beautiful beach. Explains why Italians love to go there in August for their holiday.

“Another Week in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2010

We just spent another wonderful week in paradise, and I don't think that we would even consider staying anywhere but Shoal Bay Villas. The location on Shoal Bay East can't be beat - - directly on the most fabulous beach in the Caribbean. Although it is a bit of a drive to most of the "name" restaurants, I would rather drive to dinner than drive to the beach. The rooms are fairly basic (and clean), but for the price it serves us well. And we enjoy the feel of a smaller slow-paced property, and the ability to truly have a room directly on the beach. The staff is cheery and always willing to help.

SBV certainly is "no frills", but nonetheless is a "gem" in its own right.
