We had a lovely stay at the Shoal Bay Villas. Normally, we stay at 5 star resorts but our recent trip was last minute during peak season. Cap Juluca, Cuisinart and The Viceroy all wanted $1000, per night and up. So we settled for a 3 star, perfectly wonderful, little hotel with a 5 star beach at The Shoal Bay Villas. We had a “beachfront studio literally 6 steps to the white sand of a beautiful beach. For the price it was an outstanding location. The room was spotless, as were the hotel grounds. It’s nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. The studio was actually quite large, with a sitting area, breakfast table kitchen and patio. The staff was great. We felt like we were house guests of a friend. They have an island ease as they go about making all their guests happy. They were helpful and efficient and very nice. The only con for us was that restaurants nearby weren’t very good. All our favorite restaurants (Straw Hat, Veya, Barrel Stay, Tasty’s and Bon Jour Café ) were about a 25 minute drive. A couple of nights we were too tired to get up and drive so we walked along the beach to the nearby restaurants. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to the fabulous location.
If you want a cool little café with a great vibe in a tropical garden be sure to try the Bon Jour Café. The delightful owner blends her multicultural upbringing and time spent in France with her in-laws to make great dishes and the best croissants on the island.
