I stayed at Covecastles in April of 1989, and in April of 2007. Very
little has changed, and that is just fine with me. The place has weathered a little, but it has the same spirit. If you want privacy, the perfect beach, a lovely setting overlooking St. Maartins, friendly service, this is the spot. If you want a concierge, evening buffets, a schedule of events, a place to wear your fancy clothes, this is not the place for you. I loved the view from the patio. I loved the hammock! I loved the breeze blowing through the beach house villa, and I liked that lunch could be delivered to my patio when taking a break from the beach, or that I could whip up something
in the kitchen, bought from the local grocery store. I liked walking down the beach to the quiet Italian restaurant...I liked searching for tiny shells on the beach. My son liked to snorkel around the reef right outside our door. We met other friendly families...but the
beach never had more than 10 people on it. There were little lizards outside...and little ants near the door. This is normal, in my eyes, in a topical location. It is not a sterile hotel room. That is why I love Covecastles. It is everything but sterile. The view from the bedroom, and the breeze at night are things I dream of. It is a place
to relax, and revel in the solitude. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? I know
so.
