“Great activities but you don't get what you pay for.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We spent a few days at Redwood and did some pretty cool stuff in the area, i.e. horseback riding and crabbing, and Stacy and Mike were very accommodating in helping us arrange things. However, for the price that we paid, the accommodations were not a good value - they are run down, not super clean, and not furnished with the basic Nicaragua necessities like mosquito nets, which are a must in these parts. We were not as comfortable as we would have liked during our stay. The food is really good, thanks to their chef. The beach is pretty. The ocean a bit tough to swim when we were there due to strong currents. It's a super remote location, which is part of the fun, so be ready for that. Their taxi driver, Guillermo, was the highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: Request photos of the rooms in advance. There are none on the site. Request one of the renovated cab...

“It's the food...”

Amazing spot, just when did I last have a 12 USD overcooked spaghetti with undefinable sauce and hard meat cubes all sold as bolognese? Thing is they see that as normal, there is no choice for what's avail for dinner, which would be ok, just then u expect to be asked about ur preferences. My partner indicated, in the late hour that she was vegetarian, so the spaghetti came plain still she was charged 12 USD, the problem is these guys don't see a problem with that.
There was a French couple with us and they disliked the food too...
A problem later discovered is that they cannot take criticism...

“One of the best vacations ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

My boyfriend Matt and I wanted to find a beautiful, secluded beach that was not as touristy as many in Costa Rica. I happened to come across RBR while googling for bungalows in Nicaragua. I passed the website onto our travel agent who called Stacy and gave the place two thumbs up.

We stay in the ambassador suite which is great and right on the beach with air conditioning, wi-fi and a nice bathroom with hot water. the beach is gorgeous and deserted except for the Mechapa townspeople and the guests at the resort. the water is warm, beautiful sand. we laid in hammocks on our deck, drank coconut water from coconuts, and had the freshest food ever - chef richardo is amazing!

we chilled at the beach and did amazing adventure activities too - hiked a volcano, swam with horses, kayaked, surfed, rode bikes and motorcycles among the endless deserted beaches.

best of all was hanging with mike and stacey. we felt as if it was our home and drank and ate meals with them and the guests. by the end, we didn't want to leave our friends. we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: ambassador's suite

“Cheeseburger in Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

My wife and I just happened to hear about this place while visiting family in nearby Chinandega. It is just about a 1 hour 20 min ride from there on a newly paved road most of the way, then a typical dirt, dusty road for about 16kms to the fishing "town" of Machapa.

I had been emailing with Stacey and felt like I already knew her well before ever meeting her and Mike, the owners, chefs and chief bottle washers!

This is a very small laid back wood cabanas on the beach with just the right twist of comforst and gourmet foods. Laid back, relaxed, go at your own pace. Stacey, Mike, Ricardo (hired Chef!) and the rest of their staff really make you feel at home as soon as you arrive.

They have about 20+ miles of the volcanic sand beach you can literally drive up and down and might see one or two more people along the way. They have a number of activities you can do, like crabbing at night (then eating them in a delicious soup next day), volcano climbing, kayaking, fishing, or just plain lounging in hammocks.

A fantastic place to get away and we will return for sure.

Room Tip: May want one with A/C, can get a bit warm, humid during the day, some bugs at night can be expected a...

“Great place to get away from it all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

When was the last time someone said to you, "There is no checkout time."?
That's the kind of attitude from Stacy and Mike that make this a wonderful place to visit. You can truly just relax.
It is very secluded. I wouldn't recommend the compact rental car for getting there.
The beach stretches for miles with nobody else around.
