“Lovely location made up for lack of hot water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

This place has a fantastic location in beautiful countryside. The restaurant does good food including the local version of cheese fondue and it's great to be able to get some beers with your grilled fish. The rooms are fairly basic and a negative for us was that there was no hot water for the duration of our stay. I'm not sure if it's worth basing yourself here for any longer than a day or 2 as all the best local sights (Georgian churches, the Cam pass, scenic views etc.) are along the main road and this area hasn't yet been developed for tourists so there aren't really any local trails or information to help you on your way. If you're passing through these parts though, this is a great place to stop. It's not bad value either at 80TL per person for half board.

“Lovely location - best option for miles around.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Laset Motel is in a remote area with few options for accommodation and is by far the best place for visiting the Georgian Valleys. The owner has built small chalets in the nearby village which have a view from heaven of alpine meadows and snowy peaks. Thay are small and simply furnished, but quite confortable. The main Motel has a nice restaurant beside the river, which is licensed !! ( A real find in this area).

“Comfort and care in beautiful surroundings”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2010

This is a welcoming haven situated in beautiful Alpine style scenery. A very pleasant English speaking member of staff welcomed me and throughout my brief stay was very attentive. Room comfortable. Food was very good and beer and other alcoholic options were readily available. The water, straight off the mountains, was wonderful ! Thoroughly recommended.

“Excellent food and rest in beautiful setting”

On the highway between the two tourist hotspots of Ayder (Kackar Mountains) and Kars (Ani), this little gem of a property provides an excellent place to eat and rest. The restaurant is reasonably-priced with a posted menu, and serves live trout grilled over charcoal as well as other local specialities. The rooms on the second floor are bright, clean, and comfortable. I especially appreciated that they aren't suffused with cigarette smoke as are many Turkish hotels.

The building is new and well constructed. The property is set in the middle of the Sahara National Park. There aren't many well-posted trails but the mountains are beautiful to look at. There are several villages that can be explored nearby.

  • Liked — delicious trout; excellent food; clean rooms; reasonably priced
  • Disliked — no actual trails in national park (not their fault really)
