Just returned (literally!) from Beyaz Yunus and looking at the other reviews, guess ours is superfluous, but just had to add our bit to encourage others to share what is a truly wonderful experience. We went with friends, but also found more there in the very few guests (only six rooms), and amongst the delightful staff, particularly Can and Ahmed, whose gentle charm belied stunning efficiency and a desire to do just anything, however small, to make our holiday complete. (e.g. my favourite Turkish tipple, absent for some reason from these islands of ours, of cherry juice, was specially bought in for me).
The hotel consists of a group of 'cabins' surrounded by cooling foliage and looking over the garden towards the sea; accommodation is fairly basic, we suppose, if you were expecting huge luxury, but we weren't, and the large comfortable bed and highly effective shower made the room just fine for us. The only drawbacks are a lack of storage space in the form of drawers, and rather low lighting in parts of the room, so we mislaid things quite a lot through leaving them around; bring bags to keep things in, is our advice. (We thought the Mercan room was possibly the best, but that is ony our opinion). Ours, the Yunus, was cleaned scrupulously daily by the two lovely ladies who seemed to be able to turn their hands to anything from scrumptious cookery to uhle (I think), which is bread like naan, made on a hot metal sheet and fascinating to watch.
The position of the hotel is stunning: only five minutes' wobbly and in places uneven and challenging walk (probably not for those who find such walking demanding) down to the clearest, most fish-filled sea we have ever seen in the Med area; or the pool in the garden (decidedly cooler in September!) was clean and bright if you wanted to stay put on one of the many comfortable sofa areas dotted around the property. Yes, there is a rough track down to the hotel from the main road, but so what? It only takes ten minutes or so to go down it in a 4 x 4 and it's quite an adventure for us tarmac-addicted types. There are guided walks in the forest twice a week, which are lovely, too - proper walking sandals will do, we found, in good weather.
Food was the best we have ever had in Turkey (and we go a lot); choice for lunch and then set dinner, though if there is anything you don't like, there are always eagerly offered alternatives. There won't be much, believe us!
Biting insects abound day and night - well, this is the pine forest after all - but liberal applications of repellent do the trick and we had a pretty little resident gecko in our room who probably did a good bit to keep undesirable wild life down as well. Everything in the world bites me and I'm still here to tell the tale, so don't let that put you off.
All in all, by far the nicest place we have ever stayed in Turkey. Thank you, Can and Ahmed, for all you did for us to make our holiday perfect.
