“First Class Hotel Altinkum (At Edge of Beach Walk)”

After visiting Altikum for several years and enjoying my stay here, my last experience was my only regret, that was booking the "First Class Hotel" on the edge of town, From day one it was disasterous, My friend and I arrived around 5.30am . the first room we were offered was , crampt and smelt of damp, w e refused it and asked to see another room. We were told the boy at reception could not allocate another room but wait for the change of staff at 8.am. We set in the lobby , exausted from our long days journey, our second room was little better, but after haveing one visit to the bathroom , the shower /bath was built in with a slideing door, the bath a tub 1/3 the size of a full bath, so that your knees were bent up to your chin to get into the sitting position.
To get out was another problem, you had to climb out through the slideing door which was limited to width, and with the ground being slippy, you could easily do yourself damage as the side of the bath-tub was pretty high-up. After a short resting period, we got up to freshen up to find water all over the bathroom floor. , and the toilet would not flush.
After another trip to the reception, we were moved to the 3rd room which was slightly better as it was a room for a family, but the problem of the bathroom remained the same, water, seeping onto the floor anytime a shower or bath was run. Spent our time useing the towels provided to soak up the wet.
The other guests were also complaining about the same faults,ie the bath-tub being so restricted and dangerous , the wet floor, and the general hygeine of the whole hotel. Where they got the 4star sign from is beyond me. We spoke to several of the guests to find, they would never return to this hotel. Anything but First Class never mind the 4stars. The food we had for breakfast was pretty basic, and because of the lack of cleanliness in the hotel, did not give us an appetite, another guest had evening meals, which thanks God we were not half-board, he said the display of the salads and general presentation of the food was disgusting. Not if I were getting it for FREE would I set foot in this hotel . Don't belief it, you will when you book.
Yours sincerely
Carmel Carroll September 2006.

“Not 4 Star”

This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The bar and reception are passable but once you get up the stairs it is 2 star at most. The bathrooms are the smallest I've ever seen and having to climb over the toilet to get in and out of the shower is inconvenient at best and dangerous at worst. I stayed bed and breakfast and having been forewarned about the basic breakfast was ready for the limited selection on offer. Full English breakfasts are available everywhere at very reasonable prices so the basic fare at the hotel shouldn't be a problem. The hotel staff are very friendly and courteous and the resort offers everything you'd expect from this type of holiday i.e. bars, restaurants, sunshine, beach and pool. Be warned, the hotel being in the centre of the resort and right on top of a karaeoke bar is very noisy until the small hours, even in the rooms at the back. The hassle from the local traders and restaurant staff does become a bit waring after a while. I would have to rate this hotel and resort as very average.

“Basic Rooms in Nice Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2006

Air-con didn't work in the first room and as Turkey is super hot this is essential - also had to pay £20 for air-con option. My wife was 7 months pregnant and great at complaining and in fairness to the staff they did say the hotel was full but as soon as another room became available they would change us - and they did. We only did 2 nights in the first room which was at the noisier (until 2am) front of the hotel. No fridge, small wardrobe and a big step over the high bath to get in and out for the shower.
Walk in shower in the 2nd room was much better, as was its location at the rear of the hotel overlooking the best pool we saw in altinkum, really nice.
The hotel is literally 2 minutes walk to the beach which is lovely. The sands are cleaned every night and there are people in the beautiful blue of the sea from 7am till 9pm.
The area is good for a family, pretty flat on the front and lots of bars and resaturants plying for your trade, which does get a little bit annoying but hey ho. Everywhere does english food but also turkish so pretty much all tastes are catered for, its also very cheap about £10 a meal for 2 with drinks - although wine is expensive.
In summary then this is a good hotel but you have to make sure your room is up to scratch, i suggest contact them direct to make any special requirements known. The pool and surround is very good although they do have a tendency to play loud music until maybe 8pm. Staff are very friendly, will do all they can to help. Breakfast at the hotel is typical Turkish fare, coffee was a bit poo.

“Great Staff, acceptable hotel”

My girlfriend and I stayed half board for 7 days in the First Class Hotel in Didim, Altinkum and had a lovely time.

The staff were helpful, service was fantastic and the resort was welcoming and fun.
The room we stayed in was sub-standard, there were some repairs needed including replacing the rusty taps and some repairs to the brickwork in the room.
Food was not amazing, we had breakfast and an evening meal provided. We were advised to avoid salads etc. due to Hep A, so that unfortunately ruled out a lot of the food for us.

For breakfast we typically had just bread and jam.
For dinner - usually it was pasta plus some kind of meat, bit of a lottery but it kept you going.

I'd go back to the holiday if only for the staff and the excellent pool, which is very large, has great service all day long and plenty of drinks and food available at the pool bar.

Stayed June 2006

“Not for those seeking peace and quiet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2004

On arrival at Bodrum Milas airport I was waiting almost 1 hour for the coach driver to leave due to the Thomas Cook rep placing the wrong clients on the coach. I was informed prior to departure that the transfer to Altinkum was one and a half hour long. This was untrue it took two hours and fifteen minutes because people were constantly moaning because they were unable to smoke on the coach, hence the driver stopped twice en route to satisfy their needs! Eventually I arrived at the Class Hotel in Altinkum which I was led to believe was 3*. A porter came to me and carried my luggage for me up to my room. Previous to this I asked the Hotel Manager could I have a room with a sea view and he obliged and there was no extra cost which I thought was very good. I was quite happy with the room although the beds were extremely hard and very uncomfortable. I arrived on the 28th June 2004 and it is a must that you have air conditioning, temperatures at times reached 40 degrees. I was staying two weeks, half board at a very reasonable cost of £281 per person, some people had paid up to £450 bed and breakfast. However I would recommend that you pay the additional £30 per person and have a day flight. The night flight was very tiresome with rowdy children whose parents had no control of!

Reception staff, bar staff, chef and waiters all very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was rather modest with boiled egg, sheeps cheese, olives, salami and cucumber. Coffee was very strong and needed hot water in to make it more palatable, which was provided. Evening meal did not have to consist of Turkish at this hotel, you could choose most other things from the menu, but this rule only applied to British, American and Australians. Shish Kebab was nice and also the lamb chops. You are given soup for a starter and a dessert.

Maid service was every day, but towels were only changed twice in two weeks. Air conditioning is provided at £20 per week and a safety deposit box is £5 per week which I thought to be very reasonable. A beer at the hotel will cost you 80p for a large one, large water is 40p and a soft drink 60p. A chicken sandwich with fries and salad will cost you around £1.20.

Altinkum - Not for those seeking peace and quiet! Extremely noisy, far too much hassle and in some bars and restaurants expensive. You can pay anthing from 60p to £1.50 for a large beer. A three course meal will cost £3.49 up to £7.00 for just one course! I reserved myself to staying in the Hotel because the hassle from the Turkish was horrendous, they were worse then timeshare touts!

Next year I will try Icmeler because I have been informed it is much more sedate and lacks any form of hassle.

Hotel Class - Nice hotel, very friendly and very clean. I would personally grade it 2* plus. Avoid school holidays because the Turkish children are very noisy and mischievous. Too many slamming doors at night and crying. September is probably a better option. On departure DO NOT buy any drinks at Bodrum Milas Airport. It cost me £2.30 for a small coffee and £5.10 for a large beer!! Extortionate prices.
