“A nice surprise”

You can’t miss this hotel -- it is the tallest building in the area! It is a resort with all the usual amenities. I had room 908 - a corner room on the top floor with a balcony. liked that they put a large drying rack on the balcony. The room was the same size as other rooms, but had an large extra window on the side wall. You can hear the elevator mechanism and several others in my group (on different floors) reported the hearing the same noise.

Excellent buffet meals, but get there early as they do not replentish very quickly. There are three pay internet stations in the lobby.

You can walk along the public beach to a 15th century watch-tower. The hotel has its own, private beach.

“Ok for a short stay.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We stayed at the Bluesun Alan for 1 night on a half-board basis which was included in our room rate.
The hotel has officialy 3 stars, but it isn't even close to in terms of a room comfort. The furniture is dated, the TV is like 20 years old and it is so tiny. The bathroom is clean but very small and the shower had a weird black and white curtain.
The good things are: our room had a balcony so we could open the door wide to let some fresh air in. The outside area is nice and green. Also the buffet food was surprisingly very varied and good in quality and taste.
The parking lot is big, but it was full when we arrived late, but I think only because that night they had a wedding reception going on. The front-desk stuff courteous enough.
Anyway, we paid 56 € per night and for that price we can't complain. The hotel is o.k for a short stay.

“Good hotel for families with children”

It wasn't the best choice for me and my husband for a honeymoon, but since we decided much to late on the destination we really didn't have much to choose from in a peak season. Still, the location is very good - 20-30m from the beach with a very nice golf; close to Zadar (a must see, on my opinion), Plitvice National Park (about 90 km) and Krka National Park (about 80 km), wonderful locations to visit.
The food is very good and very varied. They also have a very nice pool, but i didn't get to use it (it was always full of kids and as much as i love them, they were way to noisy for me:) ).
The room was clean and they cleaned it every day, but i had really big issues with mosquitoes - it's only natural to have lots of them where there's big water, but the hotel could find lots of methods for them not to get in your room (i spent one hour on my second night to hunt them down and there where lots of them who tragically found their death on the walls, even by others. I got myself an Autan the next day, i truly recommend that).
The hotel staff is friendly, but i couldn't find anyone to get me a tea after 11pm because the bar closes by then.
Still, we had a nice stay there and maybe we'll go back when we have our own kids to take over the pool:). But for a young couple looking for some fun it is better to only sleep and eat there, then go around and visit as much as you can cause it's a great country with great views. And don't go at the animation center at night, for us it was like a very bad wedding with really bad music:)

“Suited me down to the ground”

I stayed at the Hotel Alan for three nights on a Saga Tour (Land of Culture and Beauty Revealed). In my view it was the best of the hotels the tour used.

I was able to spend the evenings in the spa, in the 3 saunas - various heat levels - and swimming in the small but adequate indoor pool.

The buffet food was excellent - lots of it, plenty of choice and very edible.

My room had a ceiling fire detector that flashed in the night; the staff were good enough to tape it over with masking tape so that it didn't bother me.

The whole area was incredibly tranquil. I sat on my balcony, lapping up the ambience, including a sea view.

I would return, except I don't drive so wouldn't know how to reach this charming hotel.

“Mediocre at best. Local small inns a better bet.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2008

We stayed at Hotel Alan in April 2006. The hotel itself is in Starigrad Paklenica near the entrance to the national park. We had planned to stay two nights, with half-board. BlueSun, the chain owning the hotel, seems to have aspirations of offering up-scale, all inclusive accomodations for families. (We figured this out when we arrived. We were seeking neither up-scale nor family accomodations. Granted, this did not help improve our impressions of the place.) Overall, we found the hotel bland and uninteresting. April is still off-season for the area, so the emptiness of the place didn't help liven things up. The rooms were basic, but somewhat small. The meals mediocre. The service was perfunctory, bordering on unhelpful. The grounds were large and on the water, but somewhat unkempt. We were so disappointed in both the room and the food, we left after just one day and moved on to Zagreb. Unless your traveling as a family and really want an all-inclusive place, we'd really recommend the nearby small inns or home-stays as a better bet. The pluses of the hotel are its locations near the national park, and maybe its services for families. The negatives are the overall blandness of roomes, meals and service.
