“mountains and sea at your doorstep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We chose this hotel because of its location- and were not disappointed!! The beautiful Adriatic Sea and the inviting mountains of Paklenica made our holiday unforgettable.Hotel Alan is big and consists of high and low sections, some newer than others. Our room in the low part was clean and simple w. a small balcony overlooking a tennis court.Breakfast and dinner ( not much to write home about) were served buffet style in a spacious dining room.Twice during our stay there was evening entertainment in the lobby, we loved the Dalmatian performance, but were very disturbed by an Austrian band that played until 3 o'clock in the morning.Hope this was a " one off situation".The staff was very mixed as far as friendliness and helpfulness, some should attend a course in customer relation. Night reception man was very good.

“Good location but some disappointments”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We booked a seaview room with evening buffet meals at this hotel for 3 nights in October. Our room was comfortable with a balcony providing us with a lovely side seaview but the other window was made of darkly tinted glass and that spoilt the beautiful sunsets and view of Pag Island. We were told it could not be opened for safety reasons. Breakfast was good apart from the coffee. Two of our evening meals were very good with a wide variety of delicious food, the vegetables were particularly well prepared. On the other evening due to the lack of guests we were only offered the choice of 2 set meals, this was disappointing and we would have preferred the hotel to have warned us about this in advance and given us the option of cancelling this meal.
Our greatest disappointment was the indoor pool which was one of our main reasons for booking this hotel. At the reception we were told we could only use the pool as part of a 3hr wellness session costing 80kuhna that's about ten pounds. We also checked this information with the wellness center supervisor who confirmed these terms. I have just seen that a previous reviewer said the wellness center was free of charge, so future guests will need to check when it is free.
The thing we liked best about the hotel was it's location near the Paklenica National Park but do take your car as the road continues after the Park entrance high up into the valley. Drive to the end of the road and then you will still have plenty of energy for walking in this amazing gorge.

“Port in a storm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

After driving for 5 hours in a wind and rain storm down the coast of Croatia, we found this hotel.
It was more than we could ask for, offering a wonderful spa (no charge) and dinner buffet
(optional). The rooms were comfortable and the included breakfast buffet was excellent.
As we were there in the off season, the hotel was quiet and the pool not heated.

“Beautiful Setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

As the previous reviewer said - you can't miss this hotel - it's on the edge of the shore with beautiful views - but it stands out from miles away.
We were here for 3 nights as part of Saga Holidays tour of Croatia, visiting Zadar, Sibenik, the Plitvice National Park & Krka Waterfalls - all within easy travel.
We had a corner family room with balcony - two bedrooms - one twin and the second having three single beds- just for the two of us !!!!!! The room was clean with comfortable beds but I also noticed the noise from the lift.
The hotel has it's own private beach and it's a pleasant walk along to the small town , there's a few restuarants. Maybe we were "off season" but there wasn't much open.
Food in the Blue Sun was buffet style - we didn't go hungry - but it was bland and sometimes luke warm. The hotel has an impressive reception area and a pleasant terrace around the pool to have a drink. There is an upper terrace just off the restuarant . We were in the "block" - but the other side of the hotel looked more modern - it's about 3 stories high . These rooms are accessed from near the reception desk.

“A nice surprise”

You can’t miss this hotel -- it is the tallest building in the area! It is a resort with all the usual amenities. I had room 908 - a corner room on the top floor with a balcony. liked that they put a large drying rack on the balcony. The room was the same size as other rooms, but had an large extra window on the side wall. You can hear the elevator mechanism and several others in my group (on different floors) reported the hearing the same noise.

Excellent buffet meals, but get there early as they do not replentish very quickly. There are three pay internet stations in the lobby.

You can walk along the public beach to a 15th century watch-tower. The hotel has its own, private beach.
