I booked this hotel on a Groupon, so was not sure what it was going to be like (had other experiences of hotels with Groupon that were'nt brilliant!), but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. We stayed in the Mulberry suite, which is a separate building to the hotel (the only downside to that was the weather - several inches of snow to walk through to get to dinner and breakfast!). The room itself was large, had very comfortable double bed, two tvs - one opposite the bed and one in the 'lounge' area, where there was a comfortable settee to relax on. French doors led out on to the garden with a patio table and chairs - I can imagine on a summer's evening would be lovely to sit outside. It was really cold when we arrived, so the welcoming heat in the room was lovely, you can adjust the radiators to your liking as well and the heating was on all night. The only downsides to the room were the fact that it was separate to the hotel itself (although they do thoughtfully supply you with a large umbrella!). The bathroom was large but also quite chilly despite having a heated towel rail in there. It did have a huge jazucci bath and corner shower cubicle (very powerful shower), but was definitely in need of decorating/cleaning. A big no no is the carpet on the floor of the bathroom, and the usual rugs around the toilet and next to the bath. Much more hygienic to have laminate in hotel bathrooms! There is a large window in the bathroom which looks straight out on to a carpark at the front of the hotel - and clear glass!!! Yes, there were blinds at the window, but of course these had to remain shut at all times. I think frosted glass is a definite requirement here. Also for the ladies - the dressing table in the middle of the room is lovely, but there is no decent lighting next to it, and with the blind firmly shut in the bathroom this was a small problem for me.
The reception manager greeted us with a very friendly manner, and was able to supply me with another dressing gown very quickly when asked, as there was only one in the room. The restaurant was very nice, the food good and the breakfast plentiful. I especially liked the lovely fresh fruit salad that was there.
I left an item in the room by mistake, and when I rang the hotel they had no problem in promising to send this back to me.
All in all, this was a lovely hotel to stay over in, we wanted a base to go shopping in Nottingham the next day, and had a lovely relaxing evening beforehand. Yes, for a Groupon this was definitely worth it!
Room Tip: Ask when booking if your room is in the main part of the hotel or annexe
