“very dissapointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2009

I booked to stay for one night on the strength of the reviews but was very dissapointed. We did not get a warm welcome..Children racing up and down the stairs screaming, they belonged to staff! The hall was scruffy and the stairs needed cleaning. The ensuite was very pokey. The bed creaked and squeaked every time you moved.Breakfast was ok but I do not like ordering what you want the night before. No fresh fruit..Nobody told us about the car park. Remote missing for the tv.After spending two weeks travelling around Scotland and staying in several superb b&b's we were very dissapointed with this one. I wish I had gone elsewhere. The stay spoilt our last night of a wonderful holiday.

“quaint Birnam Guest House”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2008

This five-room B&B is in the small village of Birnam, close to Dunkeld. Adrian was very helpful in getting in contact with our daughter who had missed her plane. The breakfast was good with fresh raspberries a special treat.

Our double room was cramped, but adequate, as was the bathroom. Lots of stairs to climb.

At Adrian's recommendation we drove to Dunkeld (3 minutes) where we had a good dinner at the Taybank pub & restaurant. The pub was full, but there is a dining room upstairs.

Adrian takes credit cards, which was a nice change of pace from having to have cash for most of the other B&B/guest houses we stayed in.

  • Liked — Adrian, fresh raspberries
  • Disliked — small size of room, lots of stairs

“Best breakfast”

My wife and 2 teenage daughters spent 3 nights in this well appointed and comfortable guest house. We were in the "master bedroom" complete with extra large kingsize bed and modern en suite facilities. Our daughters stayed in the twin bedded room again with en suite. The breakfast was served in the conservatory. Lovely view of the garden. While the ingredients were all that you would expect from a hot cooked breakfast, the quality of the ingredients sourced from a variety of local suppliers were truly excellent, for example the eggs put your supermarket free range egg definitely in the shade. Breakfast was complete with 2 types of home made bread and preserves. Of all the places we have visited over the past 30 years, I would go as far as to say this was the best breakfast we have experienced in Britain. The hosts made us feel at home and were full of advice of local places to visit.

  • Liked — breakfast
  • Disliked — nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — lack of restaurants

“Excellent”

I've just got back from a four night stay at this lovely guest house. I was expecting basic accomodation but instead got a five star guest house. The house was lit with lot's of lamps which gave a lovely warm feeling to it. It was lovely and clean and the dining room was very comfortable. The bedroom was a good size with a small sitting area near the television, which made a change rather than just having the bed to sit on. The breakfasts were excellent, nothing more to say than first class.
This guest house is a ten minute stroll to Dunkeld, which is a lovely village by the river Tay and you can most things there. If you like walking go to the tourist information place and get a map for 50p of the local walks, they are well worth trying.
I would definatly go back here.

“Fantastic!”

We stayed here for one night midweek in November 2003 and thought it
was excellent. Food was 5* and beautifully presented and room was
wonderful. A fine example of how to modernise an old place, making
modern features look like they have always been there.
