“Basic accomodation, great location, blue waters over beautiful lagoon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

I'd like to think of Hotel Hibiscus as a motel-type accommodation. Our bungalow was basic but functional. Hibiscus is not a 5-star resort, but it gave us a local lodging experience in a simple bungalow, nested in a beautiful garden setting.

Positives:
Picturesque location. It is situated next to a beach that overlooks the blue lagoon waters. It's one of my favorite lagoon views in Moorea. We got some great sunset photos here. The bungalows are also housed in field full of flower & fruit trees (bananas, coconuts, hibiscus, temple flowers).

Location in NE part of Moorea. It is close to many good restaurants on the island (Coco d'Isle, the Mayflower, Les Tipaniers, as well as the hotel's own restaurant Le Sunset). It is just a 5 minute walk across the stress to Le Petite Village, which has a grocery store and other small shops. Hotel is also conveniently located across the street from Europcar in Le Petite Village. So we were able to rent a car when we arrived at the ferry dock and return by our hotel. The island buses also start their service at Le Petite Village. We were able to check the bus schedule with the front desk staff.

Bungalow comes with a mini refrigerator, water boiler, plates, cups, utensils. Makes it convenient for those who like to keep snacks/food with them on the trip.

Very helpful front desk service that speaks both English and French. They were able to help us make calls to book various activities and dinner reservations.

Hotel also has a great Discover the Gray Ray and Sharks tour with Serg. I still have to write a review on that, but I'd HIGHLY recommend it!

Side Note:
Be prepared for mosquitoes and other bugs in Moorea. There are lots of them! The mosquitoes will stay outside so long as you keep your doors closed. There were occasional ants by the bathroom sink, but that's hard to avoid on the islands. Just be sure to leave your food in the fridge or outside so the bugs don't bother you. This is also one place to have your mosquito repellent on you!

We would definitely stay here again in Moorea for its prime location and good price.

“Good Value, Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

We stayed at the Hotel Hibiscus for 6 nights in June 2011. It is a well located, on a nice stretch of beach, close to amenities, shops, etc. Hotel staff was helpful and friendly. The bungalows are fine, although the kitchenette is tiny and combine with...the bathroom! A bit odd, but it works for a short stay. The kitchen equipment is basic and not really meant to whip up a gourmet meal! Good value for the money however.

“wow big improvements since last stayed”

We have stayed at Hotel Hibiscus for holidays for many years and it was slowly getting run down and badly in need of updating.
We have just come home from another visit there.
The Hotel is now under new management and what a difference they have made.
Firstly the reception area is spacious and very welcoming. Getting to our bungalow we found that it had been renovated. Painted, new bedding, picture on the wall, and even mosquito nets now. We noticed that the girls now spend more time cleaning the bungalows, which shows in how clean they were. The new management are slowly renovating all the bungalows.
The restaurant has also had a makeover and looks very fresh and clean with new furniture on the deck and tablecloths on the tables inside. The food was very good, and they had the new innovation of having a local group play their music on Friday nights from happy hour until the restaurant closes.
Looking around the Resort the gardens and grounds are immaculate, and they have got rid of the annoying roosters which woke you so early in the mornings.
Also very noticeable was that all the staff were very welcoming and now happy in their work. Obviously not 5 star but very comfortable and clean for a great holiday.

“Pleasure moments”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2011

This is a may 2008 review! I am writing in 2011 and i have no option to choose 2008 review, so i need to inform you.
About the hotel:
Every sunset was a particular show!
I stayed at a bungalow, with a little kitchen, where we made our foods. There is market near the hotel where you can go by walk.
It is better for those who wants to travel with less money, avoiding to spend at the restaurants and prefering to enjoy the others facilities.
The bungalow was very clean, like all around the area of the Hibiscus.
At the restaurant in front of the beach we can have a wonderful breakfast. Sergio is one of the staff who served us. By the way, he got a boat and made a shark and ray feeding trip in a cheaper price! I recomend him.
At the front desk you can rent a bike to ride around.
The pool is good for some rest while planning the next day!

“Not my cup of tea”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

We travelled together with a group and visited several island and different hotels - this was the only one graded by 2 stars. I am not a picky person as I travel a lot and the most important thing for me is to have clean and comfy bed & shower but to have my room cleaned with bleach is way odd, not to mention health hazardous.
This hotel was the only one offering same breakfast every day, the service is slow - sure you're on vacation but when you have a group full of people - they should all be served at the same time rather than in 1-1,5 hour apart as we all needed to catch a boat.
Dinner was terrible and we left the majority on the plate. There was no alcohol available as they lost their licence. Also the hotels and shops are closed. looks like business is not doing well. Weird feeling about the location. Good thing the supermarket was 200 metres away to buy some fruit and bread.
There is a guy next to the reception who starts working on his axe and wood cutting with a machine at 5:30 am is really not my cup of tea while being on vacation.
My strong suggestion is to pay more and rather have a good experience on the island (such as Sofitel), which we did have on other islands and other (better hotels).
