My husband and I were searching for a quiet place to spend a few days during Winter. We live in Europe so it had to be a short trip by car. We chose Cote Park merely by the looks of it, although obviously it doesn't look so beautiful in the Winter because the garden wasn't so green. Still, it was a great stay.
We stayed in the Talleyrand room, with high ceiling, big windows facing the garden and a LOT of room inside. Even with the high ceiling, heating wasn't an issue. There's a separate toilet and in the bathroom there's a great shower, and also a bathtub. The bathroom is an addition and its walls don't go all the way up, though - but it doesn't affect the temperature in the bathroom.
I was a little disappointed that the fireplace was closed and apparently not in use. I advise you ask beforehand if you're planning on using it. Fridge is very small. There's an antique armoire in the room. Bed is beyond comfy and there's plenty of pillows and extra covers available. We didn't like the fact that the outside windows were very hard to close and the courtains were very light, thus we had to make an effort and close the outer windows every night.
The frontdesk girl, Julie, was very nive and helped us finding places to eat - but beware of the restaurant L'annexe nearby, though very good and with great and friendly service, it's quite pricey.
Breakfast was great, their coffee is delicious, and they have a great selection of pastries, but I found it a little annoying that we had to wait for someone to show up to make us coffee. Since they only have 4 rooms it's like staying as a guest at someone's house, and that comes with all the perks, but also downfalls that this arrangement usually brings. I guess that's expected in a B&B.
I recommend visiting the old city centre of Chalon-sur-Saône, about 10 min away by car. Beautiful old town, its streets lined with shops ans great views. There's a Photography museum called Nicéphore Niépce by the river with free admission. Rue de Strasbourg is the place to go to eat, it's lined with restaurants. Food is, in general, a little expensive in the area.
