“Needs a lot of upgrading to be worth the price”

My husband and I purchased a Living Social Get-a-way that was advertised as half off the regular rack rate. We felt it wasn't worth even half off. We have stayed at Roche Harbor for many years, first at the Hotel del Haro 26 years ago and at least once or twice a summer in the marina. We felt comfortable booking one of the condos, based on our experiences there. We were extremely surprised and disappointed in the condition of the condo. It had been promoted as being upgraded but all we could tell was it had some newer style furniture in the bedroom. The bathrooms were small, the sink area is too small to even set a small cosmetic bag down on. The grout around the sinks is discolored and cracked. The shower curtain had black mold stains along the bottom edge. The kitchen is small and appliances are all dated and appear to have been well used. The oven was dirty, the drip pans under the burners had burned, flaky food still in them. The sponge was dirty and smelly and I used a bathroom washcloth to wash dishes. I ended up running all the dishes through the dishwasher because I kept finding dishes with food still on them. The chopping mat had food on it also. Also, I spilled some water on the kitchen floor and the paper towel I used to dry it came up very dirty. This was about an hour after we checked in. The blanket on the bed smelled like someone's perfume. The condos are away from the main resort and we just did not want to be complainers, but we should have complained. I wasn't even going to write a negative review but now I am upset. I left my cosmetic bag hanging behind the master bathroom door and when I got home and realized it I called the resort right away and notified them. After 2 phone calls I was told they didn't find it. I had 3 pairs of earrings I had made in a pocket of the bag and would really like them back.
On the plus side, the resort is beautiful and the morning donuts at the cafe are a real treat. The staff was all friendly and the evening Colors ceremony is always enjoyable.

“It's all about the views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

What a break from reality! Cobblestone pathways, picturesque gardens overlooking the harbor, float planes landing on the water – all secluded from the rest of the world. Beautiful! It is on the opposite side of the island from Friday Harbor, so plan ahead for transportation. There are several choices for accommodations, so do your research. Ask lots of questions. We stayed in a condo for the space, a kitchen and affordability. It was very roomy, lots of storage and a great view. It was also a little run down. The 2nd bedroom (loft) was only accessible by a tight spiral staircase. Not great for big suitcases or little kids. The kitchen was fully equipped and great for eating in. There is a market on property. It has a nice selection of food, but is pricey. It was a good alternative to the main restaurant though. We didn’t visit the café, but heard good reviews from other guests. The resort staff was very welcoming and attentive and there were lots of activities to enjoy. The property is very spread out, so plan on walking or ask about rides on a golf cart. There is also a post office and clean laundry facilities on the harbor. Don’t miss the Colors Ceremony on the eve of your arrival. Be prepared for the canon shot though. Visit for the experience and enjoy!

“Roche Harbor Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We recently attended a three day Commitment Ceremony at Roche Harbor for a same sex couple from Seattle.
It was a complete success, with lunches and dinners on the harbor beach and in a large hall for dining and dancing. The ceremony was in one of their beautiful gardens. There were also straight weddings going on at the same time and the staff and guests were completely at east and accepting.
We stayed in one of the Company Cottages with two bedrooms, a living dining area and complete kitchen facilities It reminded us of the cottages we grew up with in Minnesota and Wisconsin, except, of course, there was an indoor bathroom! The bath had an amazing large claw tub, but the only problem there were no grab bars. Bad news for we elderly folk.
The cottages are a bit away from the hotel and other guest services, but wonderfully quiet at night and a view of the harbor. If you are not up to making the walk down or up, a person will drive you in a golf cart.
There are also two restaurants, one expensive the other not so. Also there is an express station for pastries and morning coffee if you do not want to go to the restaurants.
Also a grocery store with most needs to bring food back to the cottage. The front yard of the cottage has a small fire pit with logs and a barbecue with coals.
In all it was a wonderful three day experience.
The internet was somewhat cranky except in the lobby of the hotel...it was wonderful to get away from it for three days.

Granted--we are renting. I try not to be negative in my reviews. A two bedroom condo to me means both bedrooms are rooms. One bedroom is an open loft with sunlight windows with NO SHADES. The stairs are dangerous to the second bedroom--- tight spiral rod iron staircase! Very difficult to get our bags up! The furniture is of the 70's and worn. Don't think we'll buy!! One TV-- in living ( small) room. Not enough seating for 2 couples!! Can you tell we are disappointed! Just read a review I wish I had read before-- we have a " harbor view." haha-- sales pitch. I see a a parking lot, hillside, end of harbor( cesspool ).wish I had read reviews before we booked! My first negative review on Trip advisor!!!

“Amazing Weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011 via mobile

We had a wonderful weekend at Roche Harbor Resort and we can't wait to go back. We tried all the restaurants and specifically loved our romantic dinner at McMillians. The marina was beautiful and we enjoyed several walks around the resort checking out the boats. We also had a fabulous couples massage at Afterglow Day Spa and enjoyed plenty of pool time. We would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a totaling relaxing vacation!
We would also recommend Capt Mayas Whale Watching tours - the orcas and tour were wonderful.
