Stayed here for one night in August en route through Italy, Had found it difficult to find accomodation in Sappada - it was high season - and Lorenzago was the closest we could find. It is a very small town, you will explore it fully in 15 minutes. The hotel was interesting. It looked like it had been opened in the sixties and not much had been done since then - sixties furniture, curtains. Although it was old it was clean and the price was reasonable so we couldnt complain. We had expected that, since it was a small family-run hotel, the food would be great, and there seemed to be quite a few families staying on a half-board basis and we assumed that the locals wouldnt eat rubbish. Wrong! Dinner started with chicken noodle soup that I could swear came from a Knorr packet. For the main course my husband ordered breaded chicken. It came on a plate - a piece of cooked frozen breaded chicken that looked grey. All alone on the plate. His 'side' was spinach - a big spoon of cooked frozen spinach dumped on a side plate. My main course was roast cheese - out came a camembert, roasted, on a plate, again all alone. Thank God I had ordered a salad as a side, they couldnt take the salad out of a freezer and boil it up! We were the first to have dinner so we looked at the other diners taking their seats - we thought, surely the Italians would never eat food like this with their reputation for some of the best cuisine in the world? Wrong! They had exactly the same food that we had been given and tucked in quite happily. In fairness, we were only billed €14 each for dinner but MacDonalds would have been more nutritious. An interesting experience
