“Excellent Hotel & Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

I agree with the other reviews about the overall high standard of the rooms, staff, location and the substantial breakfasts. As for eating out we found a brilliant, well priced restaurant “ Le Victorine” a few minutes drive away in Frehel. The “Hotel de Diane” restaurant in nearby Sables d’Or les Pins can also be recommended.
As for minor gripes, rooms 16 to 20 (?) are in a converted outbuilding and the water can take a long time to run hot in the mornings (3 to 4 minutes with both the basin and shower taps on full). Also the bathrooms are a bit of a squeeze (long and thin).

Thank you for your comment.
It''s true about the hot water that took time to come. We had a plumber fixing it this winter and it should be ok now. Some of the rooms have a bigger bathroom (#9, #10, #12...). About the restaurants, we're happy to advice you the best we can and we keep an eye on the quality of these...

“recommandable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

Very nice owners and staff. Very thoughtful and clean. Animals welcome. The area is beautiful and great for the nature lovers. It´s located in a quiet area close to the ocean. Restaurants, a casino and the beach are close by. For recommandations for specialities bretons please check with the owner. He will reccomend reasonably priced very good restaurants.

“Relax at Le Manoir”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

We chose to stay at Le Manoir after reading the favourable reviews and again, we were not disappointed. The proprietor, Jerome Fournel, was very helpful with my initial enquiry about availability of dates and also indicated which rooms were available (each room is pictured on the hotel’s website). The hotel is situated on a high point overlooking the beach at Sables D’Or Les Pins (fantastic sunsets in the evenings!), which is a fifteen to twenty minutes’ pleasant walk away. It stands in its own grounds, with ample car parking (always very welcome) and a beautiful lake and gardens, full of fragrant and colourful flowers. There are also ducks, cats and a chicken wandering around freely, whom make friends with all the guests! Our room, number 14, overlooked the front of the property and the car park, and had a lovely box of petunias on the window sill. The room was a reasonable size, with a large cupboard and chest of drawers for clothing storage, two chairs, a TV and a desk. The bathroom was quite compact, but adequate (it was very much appreciated that the towels were changed every day). The bed was extremely comfortable, one of the best we have slept in whilst staying away from home. The hotel also offers free WiFi and a PC, should you wish to surf the web whilst you are there.

Breakfasts were served in a rustic dining room and comprised muesli, yogurts, croissants, bread, cheese, ham, jam and honey, with tea or coffee to drink.

Le Manoir has a very relaxing atmosphere. There are not lots of notices telling you what you can and cannot do, unlike some establishments (of course, there are the usual fire action notices, as one would expect). You can relax in the hotel’s grounds and lots of garden tables, chairs and parasols are provided (which were needed during our stay – it was hot!). The hotel caters for a variety of nationalities, so you will hear lots of different languages being spoken at breakfast, but Jerome and his wife Sharon are fluent in English, German and of course, French, so there are no communication problems.

As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel does not serve evening meals. However, Jerome provided us with a list of recommended places to eat. We chose mainly to eat at La Potiniere, which was a short walk away in Sables D’or Les Pins. There are other recommended establishments further afield, but these require a car journey. La Potiniere had a small menu, but also offered two and three set course meals for 13.50 Euros and 15.50 Euros respectively (July 2010). The staff are friendly and speak some English, although they do appreciate it if you can speak a little French! The wine list is good and reasonably priced too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Le Manoir and hope one day to return. We shall certainly be recommending it to our friends. Thank you Jerome and Sharon for a wonderful, relaxing holiday.

“A lovely place to relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2010

This is a beautifully restored property situated in large grounds with a lake where you could go fishing. Ducks, a chicken (I think only one) and cats wander the grounds and guests dogs are welcome. The hotel sits betwee the golf course and the sea which is only a few minutes walk away. We had our dog with us and he was spoilt for choice for walks in the grounds and on the magnificent sandy beach. We stayed in room 18 which is a very large attractive room simply but comfortably furnished. The hotel only serves breakfast but the owner advised on several restaurants in the surrounding area all of which were good and some superb. This was our first visit to this area but most certainly will not be our last and without doubt we would hope to stay in this hotel on our return

“Beautiful. Perfect. And the best owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2010

A beautiful two days. The owners were so kind to drive us back and forth to Lamballe, since we traveled by train from Paris. They were so accommodating. The pictures are true, it's a stone manor on a pond, on the ocean, with a wonderful breakfast and a short walk to a small town.
