There is usually ample parking space at the front of the hotel but on this occasion I parked in the overflow car park No.2 at the rear of the premises which was fine.
Our check-in could not have been better. A warm welcome and smile from the receptionist on duty put us at our ease. The same gentlemen offered polite conversation, help with our bags, and offered to make reservations at local restaurants, charming. The real fire sparkling in the fireplace and the beautiful Christmas tree provide an excellent entrance to the hotel foyer.
Our room (140) had views over Dublin Bay and it was a delight watching the sunrise over Howth Head to the left as the ships and ferries arrived at Dublin port in the morning. The room itself is decorated and equipped to a good standard. i.e. tea/coffee/kettle hairdryer etc but no fridge. Probably the decor could be brought up to date like the decor of the lobby and bar areas.
This was our third time staying at The Marine as we find although it is 20 – 30 minutes travel to Dublin city centre by Dart or car, its close enough yet far away enough from the action.
The Marine is probably more suited to the business traveller or for those exploring Malahide, Portmarnock and Howth. I’m sure it is ideal for weddings as the back lawn rolls all the way down to the sea where the views are breathtaking. Sutton Cross is a busy junction for traffic; it’s a small village really. We enjoyed dining at a very good quality Chinese restaurant “The Golden Elephant”, there is a small selection of shops nearby plus a large supermarket.
Back at the hotel the bar was comfortable and pretty good service supplied by the friendly barmen.
Breakfast was included in our rate which we enjoyed; especially the waitress deserves a mention for her professional manner.
Check-out was also seamless. All in all a clean comfortable hotel and well worth the money!
Room Tip: Ask for a sea view
