We arrived exhausted after a long flight to be greeted by the aroma of jasmine and a meal which was most welcome.
It was incredible to think we had beentravelling since 7am and it was now midnight. We would have got to the Caribbean in less time than it had taken us to North Cyprus, due to the Pegasus flight which stops off in Turkey en rout
The pools, at this hotel are lovely, especially the infinity pool, the each is small but gets crowded at weekends when locals arrive, and there are never enough beach beds to go round since most are broken.
North Cyprus is not as developed as the South. However if you are under 50 you will be very bored as there is absolutely nothing to do at night, unless your idea of fun is karaoke or a a flutter at a gaming table of one of the many casinos.
Their government has flooded this small area of cyprus with Russian owned Casinos because the tax revenue generated from them is massive.
Oddly for a low key traditional area there are also strip clubs.
Neither of us are gamblers, and drunken karaoke is really not our thing, so it was a book at bedtime or catchup of the latest new on t.v. So if you're after a relaxing week with not a ot to do then you will like Kyrenia.
Our room which was close to the bar and reception area was very noisy, it looked out to a main road where traffic thundered along day and night.
Dinner is served around one of the pools which is pleasant, however the food leaves a lot to be desired unless you like creamy stodgy lasagnas, pastas and dried up beef. We stuck to the mezzes or ate out., There are a few good restaurants nearby.
At the nearby Mountain View hotel there was a WW2 memorial party with Vera Lynn singalong with lots of WW2 veterans, nd bangers and mash on the menu. Cyprus is an army base so attracts lots of former soldiers who tour the war memorials .
Dinner would have been pleasant as it was served poolside. However we could not hear ourselves think let alone speak because of the excessive noise from a pair of teenage boys who seemed to be the in house entertainment and and sang off key very lbadly and oudly.
They managed to clear the dining room whenever they played which was every second night. We complained to Teresa at the front desk but she just smiled, shrugged and did nothing to turn down the din.
Business is booming at Silver Rocks restaurant because of these two who annoy guests with their awful renditions of Led Zepplin and Slade covers,The din is relentless.
Our friends had been inflicted with this pair on no less than six nights during their two week stay. By week two they decided to eat out and recommended the Silver rocks which was very pleasant.
Staff were helpful apart from one little control freak in the breakfast room called Yasser who paced up and down scrutinising guests in case they might sneak out a piece of sasauge for the starving cats outside.
The sea is clean, and the small beach pleasant but could be so much better if the hotel purchased new beach beds most of which are broken. They blame the storms of last winter, but come on, how much does a beach bed cost?.
Overall it was a relaxing if dull week, but if it's good food you're after or entertainment at night, I would chose another hotel, or another area of Cyprus

It is unfortunate that you endured such a long journey time, the LA hotel does it's utmost to make guests feel comfortable after a long journey and we do provide complimentary refreshments also, as the competition for flights improve, we hope the service and journey times improve also.
We aim to provide a balanced entertainment program throughout the season and we have slightly younger musicians twice a week as well as more relaxing live background dinner music twice a week and also we have cypriot based entertainment and food, including traditional style pastry based food made as an entertainment and focal point in front of guests. As a medium sized hotel we try to cater for a varying demographic and this includes different nationalities, ages etc, but we always give priority to our British client base, many of which return year upon year.
If music on a particular night/occasion is inappropriate then the restaurant staff are more than happy to make adjustments, they do try to find a happy medium. Many people who stay at other hotels complain that there is sometimes little or no entertainment and because we have a large poolside area and restaurant customers can also choose to sit in a much more secluded/private area if they so wish to be away from the entertainment.
We have a large number of modern plastic/moulded sun loungers but these are usually placed around the swimming pools as the more sturdy wooden ones are more suited to the unstable character/shape of the soft sand by the sea.
There is a problem with stray cats in Cyprus and the ministry of tourism have instructed hotels and restaurants not to promote the feeding of such animals in public places due to health and safety reasons.
