This hotel may appear to be a little dated, but it has a lot going for it.
1. The hotel is clean and has all that you need in terms of your room: beds, shower, bathroom, balcony, air-conditioning (included in the price). The linen and towels are changed every day.
2. There are three pools. One is indoor and is hardly used, but why would you when you have a good-sized pool surrounded by the accommodation and an excellent pool across the road, accessed via an underpass? The wall of this pool drops directly onto the private sandy beach with only ten metres to the edge of the sea, which is clear and wonderfully warm (we were there in September. The beach pool is the best one and has a bar and a restaurant.
3. The food is adequate but is freshly cooked and OK as long as you don't expect too much. Our advice would be to go on B&B terms and judge day-to-day if you are going to take advantage of the buffet dinner at TKL 20 per head. A menu is posted by reception. If you don't take dinner in the hotel, there are plenty of good places to eat nearby. We liked Silver Rocks (especially the swordfish steak and the chicken in orange and tarragon sauce), The Lodge and The Hut. You cna also go to Kyrenia (Girne) on the Dolmus for TKL 3.50 each way. Be aware that the restaurants by the harbour are almost double the price, and we weren't impressed with the service at the ones that we went to.
4. The staff are friendly and helpful, especially Teresa on reception who loves a joke with you, Russo at the bar, and Ahmed at the beach pool bar. Evrybody we encountered there from the management to the waiters and the maids, were very nice to us.
5. The drinks available at the bar were a bit limited. The beer, for most of the time, was Efes or nothing. I would have preferred Efes Dark or the Mariachi which was sometimes available. But if they don't have it, ask politely, and it may arrive sometime later.
6. You need to excercise some patience occasionally, but you are on holiday, so you don't need everything immediately. Well, I don't anyway!
7. Towels are provided for the pools and the beach.
8. If you want 5-7 star treatment, pay for it an go somewhere else. There were a few moaners at the hotel whilst we were there. They expected red carpet treatment, and they didn't get it. Some of them targetted their ire and their abuse at the staff, which is appalling behaviour and upset me. But if you can be laid back about everything, you will have an excellent holiday here. If something is missing, you only need to ask politely, and you may receive.
9. If you want a massage during your holiday, speak to Teresa, and she will arrange for Nazarim (lady masseuse) to come in for your therapy. There is a room put aside for massage near to the reception, and there is a proper table in there. I recommend Nazarim. She knows what she is doing.
10. The "equipment" in the "fitness room" is totally knackered!
11. There is a good selection of second hand books near to reception, that previous guests have left for your enjoyment.
Top tip: the most economical way to change your money. (The hotel exchange rate is rubbish!) Take the Dolmus down to Kyrenia. Walk down the hill to the HSBC ATM by The Dome Hotel. Draw out sterling in cash. Your bank may charge you around £1.50 for that service. Walk halfway back up the hill and find an exchange kiosk with the best GBP/TKL rate and change your money with no commission charge. If you draw TKL out of the ATM, you will get the English bank exchange rates which are usually not as favourable as the method that I am suggesting to you.
In summary, if you want a relaxing holiday, and you are not too demanding with expectations of royal treatment, L.A. Hotel and resort is good for you.
Finally, you will find that the prices of everything are half of their equivalents in Southern Cyprus!
Room Tip: There is a "presidential suite," but this may be an extra cost. We didn't find out bec...
