“Good Value for the money”

We booked this trip with Travel zoo. Not been on any of these trips, so thought we would try it out. The holiday was only £249 breakfast and evening meal, and including flights and transfers. My husband and I were in a room in the hotel which was the newest of the buildings. It was very nice, clean and spacious, with a lovely view of the mountains. We had no noise at all, and the beds were very comfortable. Some people were in the villas which were spaced around the complex. Some said these were a bit shabby, and in need of updating the decor. I think we were given the best of the rooms. The complex was very nice, with three pools, one an aqua water slide park, one with a small bar playing music, which was okay, sometimes too loud, but maybe catered more for young ones. We enjoyed it. There was another smaller pool by the villas which was very quiet, if you wished. If you didnt fancy lying around the pool, which by the way had all free loungers, there was the beach deck, which comprised of a deck of loungers, a small 5 min walk down a slope by the entrance to Lapethos. There is not really a beach, so you lounge on the deck, and for a swim go down a small ladder. We did venture down a couple of times, was very hot tho being by the sea, but I did enjoy the swim there. As for the food, well if you want english food, you are not in England! We found it enjoyable most days, it is different to what we eat. Similar some days, but you have to expect to try their food what they eat. There was plenty of variation to choose from, cold to hot meals, so plenty of selection. The surrounding area was a quiet location, a few bars, but enough for us. The bar were very friendly, especially Nur who was so nice to us. The view was so good at all the bars. You could wave down a bus, they are called domas? well more like a 8 seater anywhere along the road, they would just stop anyway if see anyone on foot, so no need to wait. The town is not far away Kyrenia, think that is how you spell it? About 15-20 minutes away. Very picturesque, a lovely harbour where you can spot turtles if your lucky. We saw two of them. Great. They do boat trips around the harbour, and there are plenty of jewellery shops to browse around. Not as many shops as I would have liked, but to be expected. We did not venture out to neighbouring villages or towns, no trips, so cannot comment on the rest of the island? The only downfall was for us the length of time it took to arrive at our destination. With having to land at Bodrum airport, then wait around 40 minutes, then take off again. We set off at 1pm and did not arrive until 11pm, so a whole day is lost. I did read a review saying about the airport, and nearly missing their flight. Well we had no probs at all, from the plane to coach either way, and found the airport very clean. Travel zoo did mention a casino and gym of which were closed down? But all in all I would travel with them again, and would go back to Lapethos. Overall we thought this was good value for the money we paid.

Room Tip: The hotel rooms were better, being newer than the villas. No balconies though. But quiet.

“reservations after reading reviews but pleasently surprised”

we'd booked with Travelzoo and then started seeing negative reviews on TripAdvisor, so travelled with a little trepidation. But we were pleasantly surprised - arrived around 10pm and food had been kept for us in the restaurant. Then checked in and the general manager realised we had been allocated a room with a double bed (travelling with my mum!) so called us back to change us to a room with twin beds. Cases were taken to our room for us and we had heating/ aircon, it was very clean and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. We asked for an extra blanket and it was there within an hour. We were unlucky with the weather (incredible storms) but the staff did their best to keep the show on the road - general manager even drove us down to the bar to save us walking in the rain! Restaurant was pretty good, food wasn't cold and enough choice and constantly refilled. Tables were cleared pretty quickly and the waiters were hardworking and quite happy, Some people are exceptionally rude and we were horrifed by the way they spoke to the staff, and the food these people wasted was shocking - taking half a loaf of bread and then leaving it on their table. Bar service was quick and they remembered what we wanted each evening, room service was daily and the room was always clean and tidy. Yousef the rep was happy to chat and knew his stuff. I firmly believe that you get the service you deserve - if you're happy and smile at people you get good service, if you're miserable then people don't want to help you. We wondered why people had gone on holiday if they just wanted to look so unhappy! Because we were laughing when we arrived in the restaurant soaked to the skin by the downpour we were offered a room in the main building without even asking. There are signs saying not to bring food or drink into the hotel, but we put our bottles of water in our big beach bags and had no problems. Finally, when we were leaving at 3.30 in the morning the general & assistant manager were there to see us off and there were sandwiches and coffee for us. All in all, it was a good holiday for the price; don't be put off by some of the other reviews - it's all about what you make it.

“Absolutely rubbish, I've stayed at better run B&b's.”

I stayed for a week at the Lapethos Hotel and really couldn't believe how the place is run, for instance, the toilet in my room wouldn't flush and rather than change my room I was TOLD to pour bottles of water down the toilet to manually flush it myself! Also, the so called buffet, if you like cold food that is incorrectly labelled vegetarian or chicken rather than pork then this is your place, the waiters barely speak English so although I paid for half board I had to keep going out for my food, which is rather expensive in that particular part of Cyprus. Also, we had two separate nights where the electricity went so we were in complete darkness, the Hotels answer to this was nothing, apparently it's part of Cyprus life! I would definitely not recommend this Hotel and seriously recommend Cyprus Premier to review their faith in their rep Yousef as he is nothing like what the other reviews state he is, I found him to be very rude and dis-interested. He only pays attention to you if you pay to go on his excursions, which I would have done had it not been for his attitude towards me! All in all I had a really bad time and would definitely advise people to stay well clear!!!

“Club Lapethos, North Cyprus - would NOT go back!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I saw a good deal on travelzoo for Lapethos resort in Kyrenia, North Cyprus. It said 5 stars half board and was a great price so I went for it. I stayed the second week in November 2011. I must say I was disappointed even though I only paid a small amount. It is a resort I would call 2 stars and no more and everything is done cheaply. Examples are that at breakfast there were only 2 cold drinks available - a cheap orange SQUASH or the cheap lemon SQUASH. At dinner they offer you a drink, but at the end of the meal you are asked to pay for it (whats the point in saying it is half board with dinner if you don't even get a drink included?). There is a distinct lack of variety and even fruits lacking, and to make matters worse they have a rule that no food or drink can be brought into the resort at all, so if you are thinking of popping out to get some fruit FORGET IT. The corrupt security guard tried to charge me 50turkish lira because I tried to bring a bottle of water into the resort (you cannot drink the tap water so they try to make money by charging you for bottled water which is 4 times cheaper from the shop across the road). The security guard argued with me for 15 minutes and when I finally told him to leave me alone and walked off, he tried to follow me to my room.

Often there were no tables available or those that were were dirty still from the last people and there was no rush to clean them. Finally, the room facilities were poor, no kettle or anything but worse still the toilets in our room dripped/leaked loudly constantly (as did most other peoples) and although they send a handyman to fix it, it carried on throughout the stay. There were lots of niggly bathroom problems and measly things such as one key per room even if there are 4 of you in the room. In future I would pay more to stay elsewhere! and to make matters worse I am not typically a fussy person

“Reasonable Value For What We Paid.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We had a Travelzoo special offer to this resort. We arrived late and expected sandwiches so we were pleasantly surprised to get a variety of salads, hot food and drinks. Our room was in the Rosa Court, an older part of the complex and it showed. Although the room was reasonably clean the carpets were stained with spilt drinks. However, there was hot water all the time and towels changed daily. The meals as far as we were concerned were very good. A wide variety of salads with soup and hot food. The pool area was very good and had its own bar. There was also a second quiet pool again with its own bar. All the staff were excellent. The location is out of town but the Dolmuses run very regularly to Kyrenia for 3.5TL. Overall - recommended for the money we paid.
