I've stayed at the Fountain Court several times, mainly because it is so convenient for Fawley, and was looking forward to this stay. I was unaware that it had changed hands and, oh dear, not for the better. Good points first, the wifi is free, well done! The proprietors are putting down a new stair and landing carpet. Err.............. that's about it. As for the rest:
Noisy, and I mean NOISY in the bar, noise filtering up to rooms (had to change mine). Staff seemingly happy with the juke box blasting out really loud, though the lady did offer to put the T.V. on for me so I could see, if not hear, the darts..
Payment taken straight away, so no tab - I paid for my meal in cash both nights
Food, OK, but processed peas from a tin are not "mushy peas".
The shower in my room was very weak and the toilet seat was broken at one hinge. The television kept losing the signal but the bed was comfortable enough.
Breakfast was stated as being from 0800hrs on Sat and Sun. To me, that means if you go to the dining room at one minute past, you should be able to get breakfast. I went down and waited till 0830hrs when the girl admitted there had "been a delay". Turns out the chef or cook had not arrived. Nobody bothered to tell me, I discovered this by looking into the empty kitchen. I couldn't wait any longer so left (chef turned up 0840hrs, apparently).
Too late to go home that evening I booked in again and was offered a "packed lunch" for the following day, as I was leaving before the breakfast start time. No compensation for missing out on my Saturday breakfast, though. Got the same room, waking early to hear someone snoring in another room, which convinced me I should set off back north rather than try to get back to sleep. Down to a deserted reception at 0500hrs to find my packed lunch waiting on the reception desk, in a big brown paper bag. Oh good! Looked in to find this contained one, yes, one round of tuna on brown bread. That was it! Not even a drink or piece of fruit and this a supposed substitute for the "full English" breakfast which I believe is separately priced at £7.50. Hugely disappointed and saddened at the deterioration in standards this place has suffered since I was last there about two years ago. Looks like I'll have to go elsewhere. I'm afraid that I couldn't recommend this hotel to anyone at the moment.
