“Wonderful place, great folks, and affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

As another reviewer wrote, view this as luxury camping....

No showers or toilets in cabins, but they are available in main building until 10PM.

Cabins all hand-built by owners out of spruce and show the work was a labor or love.

Impeccably clean - always a chancy siutation in rural Alaska.

Staying here makes day trips to Chitina and McCarthy easy - as well as a day trip to Alaska.

Owners take pride in their operation, and it shows.

“I Love Golden Sprunce & Patty :D”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2010

I have family up in Copper River and Kenny Lake area so I'm often a frequent visitor. Personally, I love the Golden Spruce cabins, it's ALMOST like real camping LOL. Sure if you love the luxury of running water and a flushing toilet you should keep traveling down the road tot he nearest hotel. This isn't a hotel, it's a cabin! Most cabins don't have running water LOL.

However, Patty does have a bathroom and showers in the main cabin that you can use while it's open. I have no issues using an outhouse in the late hours as I've used them since I was little. Real Alaskans don't mind :P Don't go into the wilderness if you want a running toilet!

I'm pretty sure NONE of the small cabins have a bathroom, as someone said "get one with a bathroom." I've stayed here since I was small and I'm pretty sure none but the main cabin have a toilet.

I took my boyfriend up here and he really loved it. The view past the road is spectacular. The weather was wonderful and there were tons of photo-ops! Take a drive up the road a ways to visit the falls <3

Patty serves up delicious drinks and burgers (among other food) in the main cabin at completely reasonable prices! I'd say they were about $8.00 with a bag of chips...which is cheaper than even going to a local place in Anchorage (ie: Red Robin)...plus you knows its fresh and not shipped in from some factory, yuck! The acai berry smoothie was also fantastic!

We paid $55/night, which is completely reasonable in my book. I plan on staying here again August 2010 :D

“Nice solution for a quick stop-over”

After a long ride (from Fairbanks, we arrived in rainy Kenny Lake at the Golden Spruce cabins. We had a nice cabin with carpet on the floor, a twin bed and sink with water (in another review, someone wrote how it worked). There was electricity also. The front of the cabin was covered. During opening hours (7am - 10 pm), we could use showers and toilet in the main buidling. Outside these hours, there was only an outhouse behind our cabin. We had a nice (burger)meal in the main building, served by a very friendly lady.
The golden spruce cabins are a nice solution if you are on your way to McCarthy.

“Great Cabin - Rustic but Cozy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2008

We stayed here the night before embarking on the McCarthy Road en route to Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

We had a private log cabin, about 12' x 15', carpeted with a double bed, sink, heater, coffeemaker, nightstand & reading lamp, overhead light, dark curtains (important for Alaska in summer!), and cozy blankets. The cabin also had a covered front porch with two chairs and a picnic table out front.

The cabin had electricity (lights, heat, outlets for charging gadgets) but no running water. Ingeniously, this was overcome with a sink & vanity with an Igloo water cooler providing fresh water for washing, brushing teeth, and drinking and a bucket inside the vanity to catch the wastewater. Two bottles of water and a pitcher of water for the coffeemaker were also provided.

During business hours (7 a.m.-10 p.m. weekdays, until 8 p.m. on Sundays) a restroom and a hot shower were available inside the shop/cafe. After hours, we used the outhouse behind our cabin.

We ate dinner at the cafe, and got generous portions which made the rural Alaska prices palatable.

All in all, we had a great stay in the cozy cabin!
