“A great family camp”

We love this place. It's a bit rustic, but the prices can't be beat. It's totally worth it. It's a family tradition. We come here every winter. The staff is helpful & friendly, the scenery spectacular. I highly recommend for families. It's a great destination for parents & kids alike. The lodge makes it easy to bring your kids - you can relax by the fire or do snow activities (we came in the winter) I was hesitant to post this because we want the place to ourselves...

“Stay away run back to the forest”

we left John Muir to come here, bad choice. we were checked in here for about a half hour before we had to leave. the staff was very friendly and helpful but the two rooms we had were another story. the first room had a dirty skillet and spatula under the sink and there is no stove in the room? the second room smelled when we first opened the door and the mattress was well in need of replacement. i dont think it was ever going to come clean. its not a lodge its a left over summer camp for kids.

“new updates since the last visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We just returned from our annual trip to the Montecito...Although there was no snow, I have to ask...WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THIS PLACE?
I mean this in a good way! Even though we came up for snow, this is one of the best times we have had! I can't imagine how much you have invested in upgrades (furniture, decor, infrastructure, amenities...IT IS AMAZING!)
The best part is the staff THE NEW STAFF MEMBERS ARE FANTASTIC! AND YOU RETAINED THE BEST OF THE OLD GUARD AS WELL!
It all began when I called Sara before we left Fresno. I knew there was no snow, but I asked "we'll be able to ice skate right?"
Sara replied, "no, but the weather has been too warm, and we have been off the lake for two weeks now."
"so we're probably going to be bored out of our minds then right?"
"Oh no." Sara replied "We have archery, riflery, arts and crafts, paintball, guided hikes. Your going to be able to sample some of our summer program."
I though for sure there was going to be an added charge of $75.00 a day or something, but Sara assured me that it was included.
Besides the front desk staff (Greg is still as awesome as ever BTW. and Theresa (I think) is a great addition)...One of the most impressive things I witnessed is how busy everyone was all the time...Cleaning, preparing, re-wiring, sweeping, raking, AND ALWAYS WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACES!!
I NEVER HEARD ANYONE SAY NO...
It was fantastic...I heard some talk of the master plan for the resort, (because it truly is a resort), and I am so excited...
We are going to scrape our pennies and try and return in a month when the snow arrives...Thank you so much for a great weekend!

Room Tip: Call for availability of my personal favorite rooms 101 and 102...they have views of the Great Weste...

“It's a camp, not a lodge or hotel.”

This place is like a neglected camp in a beautiful forest. We booked as a result of the other tripadvisor reviews. Don't do it! Save your cash. Although the room size is generous, we are looking at acoustic ceilings, no closet doors, and wood paneling. Think Brady Brunch. We are not planning on sleeping tonight as we can hear every movement in the corridor. Dinner is from 6-7 only (curried beef, brown noodles, and cream of zucchini soup). Kids ended up eating cereal. Hug your bed and kiss your fridge. You will appreciate it so much more after staying here.

“Good location, good value and nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We spent two nights here and when I booked it i was worried that it was a little too good to be true. Two night here, including ALL meals, cost less than one night in Yosemite! I am pleased to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find the location was great, the food really nice and the staff friendly.

We stayed in the main lodge and had a room overlooking the pool. As it was October that was closed but the hot tub was still open!! In the dining room there was information regarding the various walks that you could take from the lodge. We took a gentle trek up to sunrise bowl and it was lovely. We didn't see one other person on the trail!

The food is good. It is buffet style and there isn't masses of choice but what they do they do quite well. Drinks come from the various self service machines and there is a little bar serving a few drinks for the weary traveller. I managed to get a bottle of Californian Champagne for $5!! it wasn't too bad either, pretty easy to drink!

This is a good base to use to explore the local are and is great value. I would definitely go back.
