The stay at the lodge was very pleasant -- warm, quiet, great water pressure. It was nice relaxing in the great room at night when the fire is set up in the fireplace. For a bit more money we could've stayed at Montecito Sequoia for the all-inclusive package (meals included, buffet style). But the scene at Montecito was families with many children so John Muir offered a much more serene environment.
The lodge is very close to the General Grant Tree and a couple of other trails, including the one leading up to Panoramic Point, so it was very convenient to stay here. The food at the nearby restaurant was not that great and a bit overpriced though, and there is practically no service to speak of since there is no front desk at the lodge -- the front desk is attached to the gift shop and the restaurant about 150 yards away.
