As with most campgrounds, some spots are nicer than others. We like to tent camp and enjoy finding some privacy. If you look, there are a few great spots here. Over the years we've stayed at many locations in this campground. Surrounded by mammoth old growth trees, you feel like an elf in a wonderland. Our children always loved it, and we went every year when they were growing up. Now my husband and I go by ourselves to enjoy the quiet magic there. You will need to consider how you plan to deal with the rain. Once in a downpour we only just managed to get our tent out of the way of a flood gushing from the asphalt parking area above us. Once we arrived in a monsoon and had a hard, wet time trying to tarp our sites. Its a nice hike from the campground to the Hot Springs for a soak or dinner, and a longer but rewarding hike along the Sol Duc river to the spectacular falls. You can hike, soak, have a massage and a great dinner. Life is good. I can't imagine why you would stay in the sad little cabins at the Resort, unless you'd grown to frail to camp.
