“Great Place, Bad man”

We were on a vacation after the christmas holiday we chose Alta Crystal Resort. We pulled up and it looked very nice, you could see steam rising off the heated pool and hot tub. We walked in to the lobby to check in and when we told them we had an extra car the manager freaked out and was very rude to us, telling us we had to pay $40 a night for the extra car. Then later when we asked for another key to our room he refused to make us one. Other than that very rude man the hotel is great and the woman who I believe owns the hotel is the nicest woman you will ever meet, you can really tell she loves her job. They offered lots of activites for kids and provided beer and wine for adults. If it were not for that man Alta Crystal would have gotten the best ratings possible.

Thank you, Manhatttan Traveler, for your kind words. Yes, I am one of the owners and yes, I enjoy my job. I especially have fun at the evening events since it makes our place more personal and I've met many, many wonderful people over the years whom I would never have met in my "old" life before Alta Crystal Resort.

Your review is an important reminder of first impressions. I was very annoyed that anyone in our office brought up the $40 extra car charge -- since we very seldom charge it -- and only in instances where guests bring up extra people and extra cars (something that is not fun for anyone). This was absolutely not the case here, and this guest only paid $13/night for the 2 nights the extra car was here. In addition, we're sorry about the confusion over the extra key. When this guest arrived, we gave them a key to our recreation lodge since their room wasn't quite ready. Later, they asked to have this key re-programmed as a extra 3rd key for their room -- but our security system requires that all keys be programmed at the same time since a new key inserted in a lock knocks out any keys that were previously programmed. We tried to explain this but obviously didn't do a very good job:)

But we're only as good as first impressions, and we are very, very sorry that anyone here was perceived as rude. We definitely could have handled this better.

On the positive side, we're so happy that this guest enjoyed the evening events, and we really enjoyed meeting and talking to his kids. They were/are absolutely fantastic and, although we couldn't talk them into holiday bingo, they came over and made cookies and crafts with us and had a great time.

Thanks for taking the time to write and for giving us important feedback. We want everyone to feel welcome here.

“Smokey rooms.. Christmas Rates and disappointments”

The staff here are good folks and it pains me to leave this feedback but this pricey place leaves much to be desired. The setting is wonderful, near crystal mountain and the national park.

We checked into a room filled with smoke. The front desk says this on rare occasion happens due to weather inversion but can be handled but making a fire. We made our fires and it helped sometimes and other times not. Upon checkout the people next door said they had the very same problem.

The hot tubs were not hot. We like a hot tub but lukewarm does do it. They said they would fix it. They didn't.

The rooms themselves were nice but just not kept up. The remote on the dvd player didn't work, there was a broken chair in the kitchen, the toilet kept running.

I don't usually pay $300 a night so when I do I expect the place to be in better shape.

We just finished our holiday season and we are happy that the vast majority of our guests had a great time, and many reserved for next year at the time they left. It always pains us to find out someone did not find us up to par as we try very hard to meet and exceed guest expectations.

We are familiar with the smoke problem that this guest experienced. On the day he checked in, we were having a problem with a weather inversion and smoke was hanging around all the chimneys in the resort. This happens rarely and, although we can control many things, we can't control the weather. The easiest way to counteract the problem when it occurs is to either close the fireplace flue or start a fire. This particular guest's next door neighbor had the same problem on the night to which this guest is referring, but we made a point of checking in with them on subsequent days of their stay, and were told they did not have any issues.

It is also true that the hot tub heater cut itself off unexpectedly one night during the Christmas holiday. We IMMEDIATELY remedied the problem -- in fact, the hot tub was back up to termperature within 2 hours -- and we checked the hot tub every 2 hours the next day to make sure everything was functioning correctly. Again, we checked in with any guests who had complained and were told that the hot tub was perfect. We even turned up the temperature on our outdoor heated pool (beyond its normal temperature of 90 degrees in the winter) to improve guest satisfaction.

Although Mother Nature brought us snow on Christmas night, the 2 days prior to Christmas were adisappointing weather-wise, and we know from experience that guests are never as happy when the weather doesn't cooperate. We think that was at least a partial factor in this case.

We hope you will take the time to read our other reviews and judge for yourself. We always appreciate guest input -- good and bad -- since it can only help us get better.

“Very nice for the price”

Just a short drive from Mt Crystal resort/chair lift, we stayed here with friends this past August. What a nice little respite!! Comfortable rooms, and a beautiful location for hikes, etc... the Proprietors were very nice, and had a 'BBQ' dinner that was 'to die for'. At a cost that was "complimentary" ie: you put your donation in a 'tin can' for what you thought the meal was worth. In a word...."Priceless"

“Amazing Resort .. Incredible People .. You MUST stay here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

My girlfriend and I just returned from a weekend in the Honeymoon Cabin at Alta Crystal Resort. To wrap the experience up in a word it would be PHENOMENAL. We were immediately more comfortable than we could have hoped to expect the instant we walked in. The quality of the facility was first rate. We were keen on being able to make each other meals the entire weekend .. the fully equipped kitchen did not disappoint. Standing in front of the fire looking out the picture windows over the creek has been a highlight of our year to date...incredibly beautiful and romantic. The second story bedroom with balcony and ridiculously comfortable bed was again even better than we could have hoped for. I could go on and on about the cabin but in reality you simply MUST experience it for yourself.

The staff was gracious, welcoming, accommodating, and more than pleasant to interact with. I have traveled many places, stayed in all types of hotels/resorts/B&Bs and can honestly say there hasn't been a staff that has impressed me more and been more pleasant to deal with.

The pool/hot tub facility is first rate and a must use while you're staying here. Access to Crystal couldn't be better. Pull out of the resort and 15 minutes later you're buying your lift ticket.

I could gush on for paragraphs about our stay .. but in reality you simply MUST experience Alta Crystal Resort for yourself. You won't be disappointed -- I know we won't be when we return!

Room Tip: Spend the few extra dollars and experience the cabin .. it's AMAZING

“1970's mattress for $250/night”

The one thing that I expect a hotel to have is a good mattress and functioning plumbing. The hotel website claims that the rooms have been recently remodeled. Yes, the fixtures, drapes and carpet look new, but the new foam pillowtop could not disguise the thin, cheap, saggy and ancient mattress underneath. The toilet flushed one in every 10 times that you tried. As long as you don't care about a comfortable sleep, or you enjoy rolling towards the sunken hollow at the center of the mattress, then this place is fine.
