My son and I arrived 7/29 and stayed thru 8/2/11. We went on the recommendation of a collegue who had gone last year at the same time. Absolutely fabulous! From the Katmai Air transportation to the Kulik Lodge general mgr. Pete, head guide Chaad, Chef and staff, everything and everyone was beyond expectation. We definitely had the feeling they wanted us there and to have a great time.
We did 1 flyout to fish for Salmon, unfortunately the Silvers "COHO" had yet to run, but we caught so many "Chum" Salmon it was unbelievable. Saw three bears on that trip, a very large estimated 800#r+, a 4-500#r, and finally at smaller 300#. Others who had gone to Brooks Lodge (which is included) reported seeing hundred+ bears...
What a fantastic time we had, and are already thinknig of a return trip....
The Lodge is very accommodating, the individual two person cabins are perfect with separate very comfortable twin beds, very welcomed hot shower, gas heat if needed. Only thing we would do next is pack lighter, but warmer and particularly have a rain jacket with hood suitable for submersion while fishing...as you fish from 7am to 11pm except for time out for sensational buffet meals....the best is the Salmon Chowder.
If you think you would just like to relax you can, but if you are into the fishing program then there is NO REST FOR THE WEARY!-----No Complaints, just fun. We would personally recognize two terrific guides Colby and Tyler who got us to the fish and Tyler particularly assisted and instructed us in improvement for our fly casting.
I would be remiss if I did not mention Russ the Katmai Air pilot---yes now after flying with you I do believe you just learned to fly and you do do it beautifully even in the 50knot cross winds.....Kulik Lodge staff and crew...THANK YOU FOR A MOST MEMORABLE TRIP....we will be back!
