“Nice Value Accommodation in a Great Location. Would recommend.”

This is pleasant accommodation well located in the park. It’s a short walk from a decent café, restaurant and gift shop and provides basic facilities which is what we were looking for in the park at a decent price.

Feels a bit like halls of residence and the walls are thin and the rooms tight, but this is a national park, the views are great and overall represents decent value.

“The Food At the Restaurant Was Great!!”

We didn't actually stay here - we stayed in St. Mary's up the road - but we did eat supper here one evening. Be sure to ask for a window table with a view of the lake - the view is worth eating here all by itself - and a reservation doesn't hurt. The evening we ate at the hotel, the food was very good - and we are VERY fussy. The waitress was attentive, the food came out quickly, and was tastey. I ordered a salad with huckleberry vinaigrette - the dressing was very nice and the salad greens were crisp and fresh. For a main course, I ordered the salmon - and it was done to perfection - still very moist in the middle. My husband ordered the stroganaff and he enjoyed his meal as well - and his service size was fairly large. The other reviewers are correct - the meals are slightly pricey - but not any pricier than a meal at a decent hotel.

If you want "fast food", go down the road to St. Mary's. There is a burger joint there right by the gas station. The burgers are good (still over priced), but it is so crowded you will have to wait for service - there is nothing fast about it. Glacier Park is only open for a few months a year, so if you travel here you need to either bring your own food or be prepared for the prices. These businesses are only open for a few months a year, and they need to make enough to be viable businesses. We spend time in the park every summer, and I think with the staffing problems, the short season and how busy they are - they do a very good job.

Room Tip: It is a hike from the parking lot to the hotel, which might be an issue if you have mobility problem...

“Charming hotel for the true hiker in you.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

First off, I'd like to point out that most of the complaints on here are from people who have no idea what they're getting themselves into when they come to Glacier National Park. Personally, I came to this hotel to be in the most remote location and to HIKE. I didn't come here expecting a five star luxury hotel with five star dining. I feel like your not supposed to be couped up in your room staring out the window. This hotel is an absolute treat for the true outdoorsy type. So many trailheads right out of the parking lot its fantastic! The view alone is quite wonderful and even though the hotel was being refurbished I thought the customer service was outstanding. Everyone was very helpful and knowledgable about the park and which hikes were the best. So if you are looking for a starbucks cafe, gigantic rooms with television and internet, hot tubs and over development of land this is DEFINITELY not the hotel for you. BUT! if you appreciate nature for what it is, have motives other than trying to find something wrong with this hotel, and want the most fabulous view in the park... Many Glacier is the place for you. I cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: a room with a view is nice if your going to lock yourself in the room I'd say go for the cheapes...

“It is all about the view, but a lot of steps”

The Lodge is typical of many of the National Parks we stayed in. The Lodge is located on the shores of the beautiful Many Glacier Lake. Sunsets are unbelievable on the back patio. The lobby is grand. The rooms are ordinary. Our room was large, but had no easy chair for reading. There was no where to read and the lighting was very poor. The bathrooms were large, but had no shelves or hooks to place belongings. Be advised the hotel is undergoing renovations. When we stayed in the fall of 2011, the main dining room was under construction. Therefore the historic dining room was unavailable. The main problem is the elevator was not working. Fortunately they had staff, who have to carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs. The parking lot is on a hill side above the hotel. You have to wall up over 50 steps to get to your car. It was quite a climb and we saw people many pausing to get their breath. The room was clean and an adequate supply of towels were available. The hotel is pricey, but it is all about location and the view.

Room Tip: Check to make sure the elevator is working

Thanks for interacting with us on TripAdvisor. I’m very sorry that your stay with us was not as accommodating as you expected. Please keep in mind that the historic lodges in and around Glacier were built at the beginning of the last century by the Great Northern Railroad and were completely modern for the times. A stay in them today, is “turning back the clock” to a different era. I would like to point out that the rooms are kept very clean and in order by our staff. They are simple now, but at the time that they were built, they were not considered to be so. We do our best to present the feel of our facilities on our website and brochures, with lots of pictures and accurate descriptions. Please know that your comment has been passed on to our company president.

“Previous employee was right...”

My friend hit it right on the head before I even went there. She was employed by GPI for one summer at Many Glacier Hotel. She told me that the food was terrible every season because they don't have to worry about repeat business. Therefore they can serve inadequate food at an exorbitant price. She also told me that the rooms are small and loud and not always that clean. She still said we should stay there for one night, just for the views and the location.

She was correct on all accounts. I wish we would have taken her advice and not tried the food in the dining room. It was overpriced and almost inedible. We mentioned it to the manager and they replaced our entrees with other items she recommended... and they were still terrible. We didn't want to complain again, so we paid over 50 dollars for two entrees(technically sampled four entrees). Remember, that is not appetizers, drinks and desserts. It was just entrees, which neither my wife nor myself enjoyed.

I think that there is something to be said for a company(GPI) that knowingly serves low standard food at ridiculous prices because they know they can get away with it. Doesn't the National Park Service care about the overall experience for their guests? It's not like tourists have many options for food while you are 14 miles into a national park.

My recommendation to anyone considering a trip to Glacier National Park is to avoid all restaurants inside the park itself and bring a cooler packed with food to cook yourself. Don't let this company get away with highway robbery. Employees of establishments usually know how an operation is run, and my friend knew exactly what I would think of this place before I even got there.

During the summer season, GPI hires around 1,300 employees to staff our 9 hotels, lodges, cabins and motor inns, in and around Glacier/Waterton International Peace Park. As you can imagine, that is not a small task. Some have a natural tendency towards friendliness, some can be trained, and some. . . We do our best to establish, manage, lead, and shape the correct mindset into each one of our seasonal employees, but there are always some who are just not part of our team for the right reasons. Pay is average for national park seasonal work, housing is not extravagant, but the off-hours and location are a large part of what makes this experience so wonderful. The conditions that you describe in your review are very unfortunate, but we will admit, may have been accurate. We do our best to schedule and train, but at times, service can be vastly different from one day to the next, depending on who is working that particular day. Your conditions are not a reflection of what we strive for as a company. Glacier Park, Inc., is not the National Park Service, but is a private concessioner. The National Park Service does, however, set the prices for every service and product we sell in the Park. Even though we have a large number of our guests only once, we realize that they are here to experience what many consider the vacation of a lifetime, and do our best to treat them accordingly. As you found out, we do not always succeed, and do appreciate your taking the time to interact with us here on TripAdvisor.
(Okay, I took quite a bit of time, and put a lot of thought into replying to your comment. Now I want to be candid.) I think that I can see what you are saying, and I do hope that my reply helps you see the bigger picture. I personally have an ethical standard above that which you described above, and I feel like GPI and its parent company, VIAD match or exceed my own. I believe that you are alluding to a lack of integrity in GPI, and I can assure you that is not the case. I hope that you will consider giving us one more try the next time you visit Glacier. Because of the Historic nature of our facilities, it is difficult to impress guests who are expecting a 5 star facility with a 100 year old building, even though they were not considered 5 star at the time they were built. Our service should always be 5 star however.
