My friend hit it right on the head before I even went there. She was employed by GPI for one summer at Many Glacier Hotel. She told me that the food was terrible every season because they don't have to worry about repeat business. Therefore they can serve inadequate food at an exorbitant price. She also told me that the rooms are small and loud and not always that clean. She still said we should stay there for one night, just for the views and the location.
She was correct on all accounts. I wish we would have taken her advice and not tried the food in the dining room. It was overpriced and almost inedible. We mentioned it to the manager and they replaced our entrees with other items she recommended... and they were still terrible. We didn't want to complain again, so we paid over 50 dollars for two entrees(technically sampled four entrees). Remember, that is not appetizers, drinks and desserts. It was just entrees, which neither my wife nor myself enjoyed.
I think that there is something to be said for a company(GPI) that knowingly serves low standard food at ridiculous prices because they know they can get away with it. Doesn't the National Park Service care about the overall experience for their guests? It's not like tourists have many options for food while you are 14 miles into a national park.
My recommendation to anyone considering a trip to Glacier National Park is to avoid all restaurants inside the park itself and bring a cooler packed with food to cook yourself. Don't let this company get away with highway robbery. Employees of establishments usually know how an operation is run, and my friend knew exactly what I would think of this place before I even got there.

During the summer season, GPI hires around 1,300 employees to staff our 9 hotels, lodges, cabins and motor inns, in and around Glacier/Waterton International Peace Park. As you can imagine, that is not a small task. Some have a natural tendency towards friendliness, some can be trained, and some. . . We do our best to establish, manage, lead, and shape the correct mindset into each one of our seasonal employees, but there are always some who are just not part of our team for the right reasons. Pay is average for national park seasonal work, housing is not extravagant, but the off-hours and location are a large part of what makes this experience so wonderful. The conditions that you describe in your review are very unfortunate, but we will admit, may have been accurate. We do our best to schedule and train, but at times, service can be vastly different from one day to the next, depending on who is working that particular day. Your conditions are not a reflection of what we strive for as a company. Glacier Park, Inc., is not the National Park Service, but is a private concessioner. The National Park Service does, however, set the prices for every service and product we sell in the Park. Even though we have a large number of our guests only once, we realize that they are here to experience what many consider the vacation of a lifetime, and do our best to treat them accordingly. As you found out, we do not always succeed, and do appreciate your taking the time to interact with us here on TripAdvisor.
(Okay, I took quite a bit of time, and put a lot of thought into replying to your comment. Now I want to be candid.) I think that I can see what you are saying, and I do hope that my reply helps you see the bigger picture. I personally have an ethical standard above that which you described above, and I feel like GPI and its parent company, VIAD match or exceed my own. I believe that you are alluding to a lack of integrity in GPI, and I can assure you that is not the case. I hope that you will consider giving us one more try the next time you visit Glacier. Because of the Historic nature of our facilities, it is difficult to impress guests who are expecting a 5 star facility with a 100 year old building, even though they were not considered 5 star at the time they were built. Our service should always be 5 star however.
