My mother and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in the beginning of May as part of a tour. Our tour manager had warned us to be patient because it had just opened for the season. Overall, I would say I enjoyed the hotel, although there were some things that were not so great. First of all, the hotel consists of "cabins" with a top floor and a bottom floor, try to get a top floor, it has a balcony - and a nice view. We were on the bottom floor, and our view was nice, but obstructed by the cabin in front of us. The accomodations were rustic - The key card they gave us looked like something that ran a mainframe computer back in 70s; they told us it was mechanical - not electronic. We got a kick out of it. Not a problem by any means - but definately different. The floor on the bottom hotel rooms is unnaturally cold, probably due to the permafrost, so if you take your shoes off in this hotel, its probably smart to bring slippers, and our TV didn't work. About half of the people on our tour had this problem, but it didn't really bother us since we weren't there to watch TV. On the first day, breakfast was a mess - there wasn't enough for everybody, the food was disgusting, and no one knew what was going on. By the second day, everyone had kind of gotten it together, so things went much more smoothly.
What I liked about the hotel - the staff is really nice. They let me use their microwave to heat up my food, and they were really helpful. The location of the hotel is amazing - you get a really great view from being up so high, plus walking into the park to the visitor center is a nice hour and a half round-trip hike. I was a little leary of going to the restaurant the first day, after the breakfast fiasco, but I was pleasantly surprised, the food was AMAZING! And, it was not super expensive.
Overall, I liked staying here - I would stay again, although there were also some nice looking hotels in town. This probably run a lot more smoothly later in the season.
